So as I was driving to Jersey Mike's to grab a sandwich I flipped CNN on the satellite radio and, of course, they are covering a Trump campaign stop (I don't see them doing this for many/any of the other candidates). I must say the guy is insanely charismatic in this type of setting (I don't think he is great in the debate setting). Regardless here are some of the points I felt he scored and I think will be received well by the American people if he uses them more broadly.

Our current govt officials are stupid and awful negotiators...ok so we have heard that before but he was offering some concrete example this time (vs just saying Iran, China, Mexico are raping us).

He discussed two construction projects (not sure if in Iraq or wherever) one a gas station $43mm and they put in the wrong type of pumps/gas (not sure if it is true of if that was the exact dollar amount). Then spending $1B on a hospital somewhere.

Trump states he could have built 7-10 hospitals for that amount and 100s of gas stations (or not building it at all if it is going to cost that much). To me, that is where he scores with independents and where he provides the most value in this race. He needs to stop beating up on immigrants now that he has some momentum with the intolerants and pivot to the hard examples on govt waste and how his experience can overcome this type of insanity.

Part of my mind tells me that he wouldn't govern like he has been behaving. He seems reasonable on trade and a few other things, but no way I can take that plunge.

The political and financial corruption in the Federal govt.
could use a good broom sweep. A bold outsider who is
not dependent on kickbacks and has no vested interest
could do the job. This will never happen as long as we
have run of the mill Democrats and Republicans. .

He can be as fiscally reasonable as he wants, he's still racist, bigoted, and dangerous.

Would you rather have a bigot that is able to efficiently and effectively use US tax dollars to go about the business of governing OR a non-racist follows the same path of wasteful spending?

Lets say the spending difference was VERY dramatic and caused a balanced budget with no cuts to current services.

(ohhhh interesting question unIowa)

Seeing as how Trump's business ventures have filed bankruptcy something like 13 times, I'm not so sure you're asking a valid question.

Easy question. Most definitely a non-bigot who continues the current rational spending while continually looking to make it more efficient and rooting out wasteful spending and abuses. A balanced budget simply for a balanced budget's sake is a silly goal and a downright foolish one in most cases. Also, as opposed to TRump, I'd much prefer a president who wasn't an ignorant, bigoted, narcissistic, thin skinned, bully of a blowhard for a president.

You can't answer the question by changing the question.

My God, where are you getting this idea that he is some sort of fiscal conservative. He doesn't want to talk about fiscal issues because then he will be exposed for the liberal that he is. He supported socialized medicine (fawning over Canadian style socialized medicine in one of his books), he's taken advantage of the bankruptcy code to screw investors (I always find it funny that so many Trump supporters defend that he's just using the system, whereas when someone on welfare "uses the system" to their advantage then they freak the f-out), he is for raising taxes on the wealthy, he's for raising taxes on corporations, he is for penalizing any corporation that moves its offices out of this country, he is for tariffs, he doesn't support private property rights and thinks the government should be able to take your property at will to give to another private entity, etc.

You Trump supporters are something. The guy flips positions more in one day than John Kerry has in a career, and you guys think that he has suddenly found God (and that is not just a figurative saying, you guys actually think that he is suddenly a church going Christian) and become a conservative. Its amazing how much you will ignore reality just to keep your xenophobic wet dreams alive.

Meanwhile, you are going to nominate a candidate who has no chance of winning an otherwise entirely winnable election, and who will lead Republican senators and congressmen in tight races to the butcher like lambs to the slaughter. When President Hillary Clinton is nominating liberal justices to replace conservative ones (with a Democratic Senate approving them), and passing legislation to expand Obamacare, you can all sit at home gleefully remembering how you voted your xenophobic principles in 2016 and didn't let those dang "establishment Republicans" tell you how to vote.

Bro...who are you talking to?

Anyone who is a Trump supporter and dares to call themselves a conservative. If that isn't you, then I apologize. From the OP, it seemed like you might be one. My apologies if you're not.

I would love nothing more than for Trump to start talking fiscal principles because he is left of Hillary Clinton on those issues. But he isn't stupid enough to do that, he's controlling this nomination by preaching against immigrants. In any case, he'd just lie and adopt the conservative position for the rest of the campaign anyway, and all of his supports would take it hook, line, and sinker, thinking that he really is a conservative despite a lifetime of actions and words proving otherwise.

So your contention is that Trump is a liberal wearing republican clothing AND Ciggy keeps liking your stuff.

This is why I'm close to registering as a Republican to caucus for Trump. I'm indifferent toward the Democratic candidates, first time in my life I'll ever be voting against a terrible group (GOP) rather than for an actual candidate. What's keeping me from doing it is the thought of being in a room with actual Trump supporters (though in Iowa City they'd likely all be Democrats in disguise, like me).

Trump is neither a liberal or conservative. He is an opportunist first & foremost.

That is why so many Reps and Independents are drawn to him. He speaks in non politic fashion which scares some because we have been conditioned to think politicians need to be a certain way, speak in a certain tone, etc. people are tired of that shit. They see what that has led to and the tipping point is getting closer. The media can't expose him...why?....he doesn't give a crap and it kills about 45% of the voters. As long as he has 55% he does not care. He is both refreshing and scary. But I for one don't need 8 more years of the crap I have seen.

And, oh by the way, he has brilliantly taken advantage of a crap tax system that politicians on both sides of the aisle have created. He would be an idiot NOT to. It is to his advantage and his company overall to BK select segments. Don't frickin like it? Talk to you local politician.

If true (don't think it is) then 55% of Americans are idiots.

NY Times thinks his gap over Hilary right now may be underestimated on phone surveys using person to person contact. They believe if they went head to head right now it might be higher than 55

Without tax incentives? Without illegal immigrants? With legitimate building materials? Could he build a coffee pot for under $1000?

Yikes!

How sad is it that our choices for president might boil down to Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton?

Just a very sad state of affairs.....
