President Donald Trump indicated Friday that he is considering imposing “large scale” sanctions on Russia to pressure the country into a ceasefire and peace deal with Ukraine.

“Based on the fact that Russia is absolutely ‘pounding’ Ukraine on the battlefield right now, I am strongly considering large scale Banking Sanctions, Sanctions, and Tariffs on Russia until a Cease Fire and FINAL SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT ON PEACE IS REACHED,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “To Russia and Ukraine, get to the table right now, before it is too late. Thank you!!!”
Trump’s post followed the first major missile attack against Ukraine since the Trump administration paused intelligence sharing with the embattled country.
Trump’s threat marks a shift for the president, who has been arguing for weeks that Russia is ready to negotiate a peace deal after invading Ukraine three years ago. During his address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday, Trump said, “We’ve had serious discussions with Russia and received strong signals that they are ready for peace.”
Trump has faced criticism for launching talks with Russia to end the war — and for pressuring and criticizing Ukraine. European leaders have been alarmed by the shift in U.S.-Russia relations since Trump took office. They have expressed concern that Trump will make concessions to Russian President Vladimir Putin and embolden him.

Double secret probation?

The EU has been posturing on these things for the last 3 years. Germany is solidly on the fence, and it's no surprise we don't hear much from them. They have an almost complete reliance on Russian energy, particularly natural gas. Biden promised to mitigate that with US supplies, but that was an empty promise given Biden's policies on production and exports of US natural gas.

It would be really nice if there was a way to educate the US population on all of this stuff. The BBC and Reuters are far superior to US media. There are many other decent news sources as well, but most people in the US rely on MSNBC, FoxNews, CNN, and partisan tweets for their news and indoctrination.

Maybe you shouldn’t support the guy that kicked Reuters out of the WH press pool?

I can't take a comparison seriously when people try to compare MSNBC and CNN to Fox News. 787,000,000 reasons why I don't.

I assumed he'd put the sanctions on Ukraine. Are we sure he meant to say Russia?
I think he saw some internal polling of how his whole "let's kiss Russia's ass" campaign was going. Or, more likely, Congresspeople are starting to pound on the door about how they have no idea how they are going to get re-elected and if the House and Senate flip at midterms he will be impeached about a week after the new Congress is brought in and this time he would have to actually defend himself.

Why did I know this would take less than 30 seconds to disprove?

It appears I'm living rent free in your head.

I take stances on issues. I've criticized Trump multiple times today. Why don't you mention those posts?
I'll help you out brother. If you could just point out all of these Trump critical posts for me from just today I'd be happy to mention them as well. Just having a little bit of trouble finding them. 🤔

IF Trump can put large scale sanction on Russia, what's that say for the previous admins attempts at thwarting them? I'm sure most people thought we did all we could do
US doesn’t trade that much with Russia sanctions from us isn’t effective. Send more missiles and other arms does more .

LMAO at tariffs on Russia. FOR WHAT?!

That's just Bonespurs spouting tough talk, trying to make us think he's tough with Putin. We all know he sits on Putin's lap and gets his head stroked like all good lap dogs. Sure he had to actually ask Putin if he could release that statement, before he released it.

I think he just got to the end of his list of countries in the world to threaten and Russia was the last one on there so he needed to spout something before starting over again with Mexico.

I'll believe it when I see it. I'm hopeful and I'll commend Trump if he does it, but I'm not counting on it.

Do you take the time to consider what you're writing before putting it into words? So you are saying what Trump hasn't done but could do, is better than the sanctions Biden put on Russia because Trump used the words "large scale"? Trump hasn't put any sanctions on Russia, and I highly doubt he will take any action against them, making your question largely imaginary.

Who is surprised that, given that info, Russia would launch a large-scale offensive? Other than JD Vance, of course.
Yep. Russia literally said they were going to do this while the U.S. was screwing over Ukraine.

"Russia is advancing. The enemy is resisting and has not yet been defeated," said Medvedev, who is deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council. "Inflicting maximum defeat on the enemy 'on the ground' remains our main task today."
