Back in the groove of the weekly presser after a week away.
I think collectively most of the guys enjoyed having the week off. Sounds like most of the starters did minimal work on the field. They did start their prep for Wisconsin one day earlier than normal, so from that standpoint this week is a bit different. Guys were off last weekend. Some stayed around and some went home. Schott said he and Linderbaum went duck hunting on Saturday.
Real emphasis on dealing the the blitz from the offensive players. Talked to Schott, Petras, Goodson, and Pottebaum and they all spoke about it. Talked to Tyler about it specifically and he said the scout team has been giving them some strong blitz looks this week and they have been working hard on it. Petras said there aren't any surprises with Wisconsin and their scheme. He said he is really impressed with their inside backers, Sandborn and Chenal.
Talked to Arland Bruce today. He said he has been working more at both the Z and slot in practice. Said it's about 50/50. Likes both spots. Asked if he feels like he will get more reps and he said all depends on the plays and is called.
Goodson said he has some confidence based on what he was able to do last year against the Badgers. Last year Iowa's running backs ran for over 150 yards and Goodson hit an 80 yard TD run against Wisconsin.
Also talked to Merriweather. He was kind of vague on the status of Moss when asked about him at practice. Basically said he wants to be out there. Will be interested in what Kirk says today at his presser. Have heard it might end up being a game time decision on Moss playing, but again, it's still early in the week. No surprise, but Merriweather said that he expects that he won't be out there as much this week since they will be playing three linebackers. So expect Jacobs at linebacker with Campbell and Benson and Belton at safety.
