Tuesday Morning FB Practice Photos

Saw in a video that was posted that Andre Harris is getting reps with 1st team. Excited to see what some new WRs can do like him and Scheel and maybe Josh Jackson or Falconer.

I hope to see lots of Derrick Mitchell (#32) this season. He shows great lean and pad level, and the coaches said they switched him to RB last year when the first team D couldn't tackle him when he ran on the scout team. So gimme an RB that can't be tackled. Yes, please. :) But really, the kid seems to have great potential, but nobody can help you if you glue them to the bench. Ask Damond Powell, Derek Wilies, and, oh yah, CJ Beathard, among others. So let's see what Mitchell can do in ball games. Practice is practice. All that matters happens on Saturdays.

I have a feeling that Wadley and Mitchell will get plenty of carries before the season is over. Both Daniels and Canzeri have a history of injuries and every season is a grind.

As coach White mentioned though, it's not all about rushing the ball, Picking up blitzes, blocking downfield, catching passes, etc.

Still, Wadley looked very good at times last year and Mitchell looks very smooth. One of those two, Wadley or Mitchell, could be a big part of the offense by mid-season.

The only two pictures I saw of our passing game in the entire bunch was a catch by the fullback and an interception...we know Greg Davis is in charge!

Yes, because those two pictures were the only passes that were thrown all day at practice today...... you have an uncanny ability to take neutral events, even the most inconsequential , and squeeze them sideways into your warped perception of reality. Congrats and keep up the good work.

By the way, the catch by the fullback went for a touchdown,

No joke. If you have guys that can score, put the ball in their hands.
How did we feel about Tim Dwight returning kicks? Can anybody recall the last time a returner was hurt? Lastly, would anyone be willing to make some type of arrangement where they pay me $10 for every starting WR or DB I observe returning a punt or kick-off in 2015? I could do a spreadsheet :) If we want to enlarge our body of research, we could include the NFL.

Well, one significant difference would be that Iowa only has one proven WR worth anything. An injury to Smith would probably the most devastating thing that could happen to this team outside of CJ going down. King wouldn't be that big of a deal since we're extremely deep at CB.

Tom, is Walsh injured? I noticed I didn't see any pictures of him at media day and a video that BTN showed had the first team offense and Welsh and Simmons were at guard and no Walsh.

He was apparently dinged up a bit in the first padded practice the day of media day. Similar to Daniels, so they kept him off his feet that day. Have not heard anything long term. During camp, guys get dinged up and they try to be careful with them this time of year.

Thanks. makes sense.

I would say you are correct, in that Tevaun is our #2 guy in importance when it comes to factoring in their backups. There is nobody of known quality behind him. That may (I #$@&ing hope!) turn out to not be the case come September. We will see... As for the #1 guy in importance when factoring in their backups - CJ? I don't even want to think about it...
