Spoke with quite a few Iowa players today.

Lead off with Petras. He confirmed that Iowa coaches told him on Monday morning that he would be starting. He said the time being hurt and watching helped him to appreciate being a starter. He said he has been really impressed by Michigan. Defensive ends stand out for sure and compared it to Purdue. Tyler Goodson said the same thing.

One theme that came across today is the fact that this Iowa team kind of likes this underdog role. When Goodson was asked about it he got a smile. Basically they are just used to being the team that is always the overlooked underdog and he pointed out, since he's been at Iowa and even before then, no losing seasons. Bottom line, they like being the dog.

Couple of Michigan kids on the team in VanValkenberg and Merriweather. They are both excited to play Michigan. Zach said he really didn't grow up rooting for Michigan, but his dad did. He kind of rooted against them just because. :) Merriweather said his uncle was a big Michigan fan and liked them growing up. He said he has a couple of friends on the Michigan team. One of his old high school teammates and another kid who played AAU ball with him.

Talked to Koerner and Merriweather about Moss winning the DB of the Year award and they were both thrilled for him. Said Iowa has kind of owned the award over the years. They said that Kirk shared the news with the team at the end of practice and it was cool to be there to see Riley get the news.

A lot of the guys talked about Saturday and what that was like. Merriweather said he had a Gopher hat on. Goodson was watching with his family. Koerner was watching with his family and the Moss family and a few other teammates. There's a video out there on twitter of them rowing the boat.

Talked to Caleb Shudak today about kicking indoors. He said it impacts his pregame. He loves kicking inside because no wind. He said usually he will do few reps because he doesn't need to worry about wind. He said he is loving the idea of playing in December and not having to worry about the cold and wind.

More to come with Kirk at 1:30
