Tuesday with Torbee

I think he does an excellent job of summing things up after last Saturday and sure lot of Iowa fans have to agree with what he wrote this week.

yes, but if dwindling coffers is an argument point, the Hawks need to relinquish membership in the B1G and the lucrative television and conference money. 10k fans per game = about $4m to $6m....a small piece of an ever growing pie because of streaming, TV, Licensing, charitable gifts. The salary argument gets old, so does the thought the more fringe element of fan bases aren't marginalized. Attendance is going to have to dip into the high 40s to low 50s to have real pain associated with attendance. It is a massive and well diversified revenue stream these days.

The "Reputation cost" might be greater than the physical dollars and cents. Barta isn't going to.like being the AD of a football team that has half empty stands when the last coach went down in history for saying he couldn't believe how many people showed up even when the team was horrible. (God bless Hayden fry)

Not at all. It’s just tat coffers won’t dwindle to a point where that motivates change for the current staff or a future one. Every B1G team is awash with money. Heck, look at what places like Purdue, Indiana, and Illinois are investing .... it’s not dependent upon ticket sales or recent wins

The Iowa athletic dept made a net profit of 3 million dollars in 2016. I fail to see how the athletic dept going into the red is not a concern. You do understand profit/loss concepts, right?

@ScoutRefugee is right. While revenue is massive, our budget has risen to absorb the new found wealth. I would not be surprised to see top attendance (other than ISU) around 63K next year if we lose out this season and finish 6-7 (after the bowl). Given the abysmal performance of our offense and special teams the last two weeks, that's a real possibility.

If we have a similar season next year, watch out. we will see attendance in the 50's for the next season and Barta will have to make the hard decision. The pattern is well understood at this point, but I think tolerance of the down seasons is dropping. Especially with a fan base that would prefer a 42-35 game vs and 17-10 game. I don't mind a defensive battle, but ineptitude is painful to watch.

More and more fans are finding this program boring to watch. Those people start to just "check the score" instead of watching and/or going to the games. The next step is forgetting to check the score and then down into just not caring anymore. We saw it with basketball. Tailgating will only carry this program so far and with the drop in atmosphere after the crackdown on tailgating (seeing lot 43 west of the stadium is just sad these days), its ability to support the weight of a marginal team is flagging.

I have to be honest. I went into this season thinking that Kirk would be ultra motivate to ensure his son's success. I thought we had what looked like a really solid coaching staff other than the obviously unproven OC. With two other OC's on staff, I figured we'd see Brian get the support he needed to be successful. To the contrary, I think this is the worst offense we've had since the rebuilding years. Given what we've seen under GD, that's saying a lot. This does not bode well for Brian's reputation and future to have the offense tank like this.

Next season will be interesting if nothing else as the seat of the OC is already getting warm and, due to the familial relationship, KF's seat warms up with it.
