Rastetter demoted? :) Also, when did DeVonte Young fall off of kick return or is he injured?
I think the like Akrum back there more with a healthy butler they can let Akrum return kicks.. they tried marsette for one return last week..

Serious question, is Stanley our best punter? I got to thinking about this and if we could line up every punt as a punt/pass option we could be a giant pain in the backside for teams. Heck even if he is 5 yards short of the punters the other team would have to line up wonky to defend us.

Idk man with him lining up 5 yards off the ball instead of 15 or whatever it wouldn't surprise me if the "gains" were similar. He didn't hit the piss out of that punt but he hit a 40(?) Yarder? And again even if he is "short" the other team couldnt set up a retuen formation because he could throw it.

Neither of those are new. Same as they were listed last week.

This past weekend we actually saw Ihmir Smith-Marsette take over kickoff return duties from Ivory Kelly-Martin, who got banged up IIRC.

I'm sure the "punters" can physically kick the ball further but if the goal is to win the football game Stanley is a legitimate threat. Could you imagine how big our eyes would get if he were to set up for a pooch punt and the other team was trying to defend Noah and Hock 1 on 1 with only a return man way back there to beat.

Hopefully they put someone else on KR. ikm wasn't doing a great job and ISM really didn't do will with his opportunity.

I was pretty tough on Gervase early but the guy seems to keep his head down and improve a little bit each week. I know Snyder has the heart of a lion but I wish they would have looked at red shirting him.

That was an amazing WOB but I don't feel like creating a new user name. Sorry Blair auto correct.

bump.... As mentioned by one of the announcers Saturday, punting from a shotgun formation increases the risk of the ball hitting one of the O-line in the back. Still a good message board topic - I wasn't aware that Stanley punted in high school.

Hang time is more important than distance in punting, and I’d hope our punters are better than Stanley at that. They practice punting every day.

I would agree crunch but my eyes tell a different story. As mentioned the guy was a heck of a punter in high school and this formation would great a giant headache. There is plenty of research to support ALWAYS going on 4th. This would at minimum create a 1 more problem for each team to deal with during game prep.

I have seen different ways of calculating it but this one puts a point value to different spots on the feild. It's an interesting concept. There is a high school coach in the south that does this and people hate him because he runs up the score on everyone. (Because his team always has the ball)

Well then, here's hoping that all of our opponents go for it on 4th and 10.

Hang time is more important than distance in punting,

Isn't the point of the QB pooch punt that the opponent won't have a punt returner deep due to the possibility of the play actually being a pass play? I don't see hang time being important in that case. If the ball is past the Iowa 40, why not have Stanley in there on 4th down?

His ability to kick could create alot of mismatches for us. It's all a pipe dream but I expect the pooch to become something we see every now and then. With hock and fant we would have teams scared.

Isn't it fun to talk about these kind of wrinkles...... man it's good to be a hawk and with BF I feel like there is a small but real possibility we see stuff like this every now and then.

Oh and they onside kick every time, and usually go for 2 ala Oregon.
