Niemann listed 2nd string. Hockaday not listed. IKM second string slash.

Defense notables:
Brincks will start ahead of Lattimore
Niemann back in business but will back-up Wade
Moss and Brents with second consecutive starts over Ojemudia and Hanks at CB
Welch starts at MLB ahead of Jones; Hockaday not listed

At this point Moss and Brents appear to be getting more comfortable. Yes, they will make freshman mistakes, but their ceiling seems higher.

You could be right but IMO Ojemudia is the best run defender of the bunch and Maryland is a run heavy offense (currently 3rd best in the B10 at 245 ypg).

Brincks over Lattimore notable- It's been this way all season.
Moss and Brents will be making their 3rd consecutive start- Minnie, Indy and this week.

With a run heavy opponent I wouldn't be surprised to see Welsh and Jones manning the LB spots in the new 4-2-5 which is really just the same 4-3 with Hooker playing Nieman's spot. Unless some eagle eye has spotted a difference between the LEO and the STAR positions.

That's true. I suppose it's good to have players with different skill sets at the same positions. Indiana was a pass-first team, Maryland loves to run the ball. Put in your best players for the situation.

Iowa used their TE's in more of an "H" back way last week to run power. With Ross out, I expect to see more of it. Austin Kelly has been waiting almost 5 yrs. for this opportunity, I hope he is jacked and takes advantage of it. He's a tank.

Great that Kelly snagged that TD pass last week. Well earned, and something he'll never forget.

My bad. I thought Lattimore started last week?..... and your right, will be the freshman CBs 3rd consecutive if they start Saturday against Maryland.

Sure...but Ross will probably crush them anyway.
Pretty sure Kulick was an even better short yardage runner, but they didn't use him much. Ross does run tough, but if they key him.......I doubt he has as much success. When they keyed Greene, even he couldn't get back to the LOS and who ran tougher than him? It's working because the D's are keying sneak, then back, and by the time they get to the FB, he's already broken through without LB's meeting him at the line. It's nice that people are recognizing the FB's contributions and efforts. They don't get a lot of love.

Not doubting you by any means but I know we are going to run in a lot of short yardage situations and it drives me nuts when we have deep handoffs on short yardage situations. My point is I want Ross to get the ball in quick hitters rather than another back several yards deep. If the defense is going to blow the play up, I like Ross better to try and shake the hit and fall forward a yard or two.
