Don’t see any immediate changes other than Colbert in and IKM not listed. Was Duwa listed as backup C last week?

Yes - Duwa was the listed backup C last week too. However, if Render were to go out - I'd expect that Banwart would slide over to C and Levi Paulsen would go in at OG.

He was in on the goal-line play on ISU's first possession ... it led to the false-start penalty ... so he never saw a live positional snap.

So he was on the field ONCE? Am I reading that correct?

If so, that's a pretty big head scratcher isn't it?

ISU only ran 56 plays (not including plays with penalties). The Hawks rotated 3 primary guys at DT (Brincks, M. Nelson, and Lattimore) ... and then, during pass-rushing downs, Hesse and Golston were our interior D-linemen.

The point being ... we effectively had 5 DIFFERENT guys seeing snaps at DT ... and there simply weren't many snaps to distribute between them.

Not really. Golston and Hesse playing lights out as DTs in passing situations. Also the defense so good that minimal snaps and less need for using backups

The Hawks WILL see a game or two this season where the D has to face 80+ snaps (most likely against PSU, I would guess) ... in that game, there will be plenty of snaps to go around. Reiff will receive his chance to shine ... he just needs to make sure that he's ready to make the most of his opportunities when they come!

I would bet you see both Welch and Colbert this week in a rotation to determine the starter going forward. I would also guess that Jones gets some time at MLB this week as well.

Rieff has been getting a ton of praise (on here) which is why it surprised me. Thanks for the response.

I understand the surprise ... I was looking for him too. However, given Iowa's respect for Montgomery ... I think that the coaches would have erred on the side of putting in Lattimore's larger "girth." Besides, Lattimore essentially was a starter through half the games last year ... and he saw the fewest snaps of all the D-linemen who were a part of the rotation.

Both Welch and Colbert looked good in the opportunities that they've seen ... having good depth at an important position is a nice problem to have!

When Iowa flashed it's goal-line D ... BOTH Wade and Jones entered the game too!

I never noticed Jones out there. Was he only "like Reiff" in for the goal line package?

Yep ... the only positional action I saw him get was in form the goal-line package ... and, even then, it wasn't a live rep. On the other hand, I wasn't paying attention to the personnel on special teams ... I'd assume that Jones was a special-teamer for us too.

Sometimes. ISM hasn't returned a punt yet this year.

This is the one that makes me believe that they aren’t really paying attention to every line in this 2D. Probably have one of the managers fill it out and he just picks his favorites. Kind of like when KF used to vote in the Coach’s Poll.

ISM listed 2nd string at WR, though he really starts.

ISM listed 1st at PR, though its really Groeneweg.

ISM is more like our co #2 WR. Although, when we operate out of our ACE sets ... he's then absolutely a starter. Not really an issue to split hairs about.
