Two Des Moines suburbs rank in top 50 places to live

Ehhh, I don't really enjoy much of the metro west of where University splits and north of, say, Hickman. It's sometimes hard for me to believe how much some of those newer houses sell for. Especially in the townhome developments where they'll often spare any possible expense to get it built and get it sold quickly. I get the location aspect if you have kids and you don't like the DSM schools, but the more recently built parts of those towns are a real bummer to drive through.

Stick to the east side. Did you enjoy the fair on Friday night?

I love the idea perpetuated that new houses are crap, went up too quick, but the cheap houses from the 70s/80s were not.

I don't live on the east side (I have and I liked it more than when I lived in a Waukee townhouse). It's too quiet out that way. Pretty creepy. I didn't attend the fair on Friday and you know why.
