Two historical weeks in a row

Our performance against Ohio State will never be forgotten for many reasons. I have only seen Iowa beat them once since the 80's. It was one of the greatest Iowa offensive performances I have ever seen. We didn't just win, we gave an historical beatdown.

Then we follow it up with one of the worst offensive performances in history with 66 total yards and an offensive shutout. In fact it was the second lowest total yards in FBS this year and the lowest in Ferentz's tenure at Iowa. It was the fewest ever allowed to a Wisconsin conference opponent. We just didn't get beat, we got an historical beatdown.

The significant inconsistency in play is cause for concern with the coaching staff. Many loyal Hawk fans are dismissing this last game with excuses that Wisconsin's defense is really good, we have injuries, we have inexperience, and every team gets owned now and then like Michigan State and Georgia just did. However, they weren't held to 66 total yards that included 4 turnovers by our defense, two of which went for pick six's.

Wisconsin's defense allowed us 66 total yards and no offensive scoring. Why did every other Badger sub-par opponent like Illinois, Maryland, Purdue, and Indiana put up over 200 to 300 yards and at least a score offensively? We have injuries but our tackles played well last week against Ohio State. Besides, Wisconsin has more significant injuries with their two best receivers out. Inexperience? We have a sophomore QB, so does Wisconsin and I like Stanley more. Our running backs are both seniors and we have a returning senior receiver. The Badgers were led with a freshman running back and a freshman receiver doing the damage over Iowa.

How does anyone explain the drastic difference in performance in just 7 days? All I can think of is coaching or lack there of. I still remember Ferentz interviewed at halftime saying we just need to move the ball while chuckling.

Regardless, I have never seen two consecutive weeks so drastically different in performance.

Side note: Jackson is a beast CB. It's great to see him follow another Hawk CB great in Desmond King. Now, if we can just recruit a great receiver. Hahaha.

The Hawks played $hitty on O. If one is looking for reasons they couldn’t get on track at all, I’ll give you something to chew on-

MVB didn’t do his job and catch 2 punts. Instead of FPos outside the 25, it was inside the 10.

ISM drops first down pass—an Iowa punter who can’t punt enters

Easley drops a 1st pass — an Iowa punter who can’t punt enters

Fant drops a potential TD pass — an Iowa punter who can’t punt enters

+ 2 fumbles on own side of field, int at midfield

Iowa O is comprised, but comepletly neutered whe Field Position is horrid. That has Ben the case in all four losses ... with a root cause of our inability to punt, or field a punt
