1) Iowa ran a jet sweep that wasn’t telegraphed. In the first quarter, ISM went in motion and got the hand off from Stanley and the defense didn’t see it coming. Usually, it’s much more obvious. This could become a weapon.

2) Iowa ran a successful QB draw. Iowa was able to use formation to clear out the middle giving Stanley a good chance to be successful on this play. It was a nice third and long conversion. I’ve been waiting for this.

The nice thing is that this team continues to get better each week. Today the defense was very good when it needed to be. The offense will days to shine going forward assuming the weather cooperates. If Iowa continues its current traj Tory, who knows what this season holds

What I really liked on your point #2 is that Stanley got hit a yard short of the 1st down marker and went down 4 yards after it!

I am not convinced that was a qb draw... I think Stanley decided to go.
I am almost certain it was a called qb draw and Render pretty much confirmed that in his postgame interview.. If it wasn't, Stanley gave up on the called play before ever seeing if it was there.

It was a draw.

It worked but Stanley needs to let it develop a little more before taking off. That’s what happens when he doesn’t run it all that much or look to run on the roll outs where it is wide open in front of him, instead, choosing to make a throw into a tight area that isn’t going to gain many yards. Tuck it and run big fella. They gotta pound that into his head while reviewing film.

Since Stanley never runs it is a great play. I remember years ago when Payton Manning was playing with Broncos, but Payton never ran..EVER.. and on one play at the goal line he faked a hand off and rolled to his left and basically ran into the endzone untouched. That is what I thought of with Stanley today. other then he ran it right into the teeth. Pretty good run actually and I wish he would do it more.

It looks to me that young Mr Stanley has found a bit of anger in his demeanor.
Twice he carried the ball yesterday and both times he lowered shoudler and started driving back the defender. He has the size and now he seems to have found the motivation.

KF said they put the QB draw in at practice last week, and when BF called it yesterday KF said he wasn't so sure it was a good call . . . until he saw the result.

And I believe the timing was just right. If you pause any longer than Stanley did, that middle gap can fill fast and you've got a bad play. Once the QB back pedals, the defense reacts, and that's when you have to go on the draw.

I also agree that Stanley went a little CJ on his runs yesterday, which is both glorious and scary. Stanley's bigger than CJ, but it's still easy to get hurt if you don't slide. But yah, I loved the big QB hitting in there like a fullback. The potential that Stanley might take off adds one more thing for the defense to worry about, and the more the better for the Hawkeyes.
