Two things I've noticed in this game.

Bohannan has no place in a game like this because he can't guard anyone and he can't get open for a shot. The second is why is Conner Mc Caffrey shooting three's when he's one of the worst shooters we have?
Tony P should be starting and getting 25-27 minutes a game. J Bo can come in when we need some 3's and he can get open.

No not an irrational ignorant take on Bohannon. He just can't stay in front of anyone of defense and can't get open on offense against an athletic man to man defense and that's the God's awful truth.
I agree. This wasn’t the game or night for him. If he can’t get open to hit threes he shouldn’t play. Fran realized that late in the 2nd half and we went on a run. It wasn’t only because Bohannon wasn’t in but having a different player in there helped. I like Bohannon and he’s good for the team but every player has some limitations.

It’s the same thing as the last few years, if JBo isn’t getting open and/or hitting threes, there’s no reason to keep him in extended minutes. Fran just has to realize it early on.

Perkins should start at 2. Most teams can take JBO out of the game--all you need is a little bit bigger guard with some atheticism.

CMAC is a 9-10th best player. Fran thinks hes 6-7th best player.
Another stellar offensive game from Connor. 0-5 from 3 from a guy who is a 14% 3 point shooter. 17 minutes per game averaging 1.1 points per game. Fran is looking like a dad playing his son at this point.

You're just now noticing this?

By "game like this" you mean a big ten conference game?

Here we go again. Bring on the irrational ignorant takes on Bohanon. He hasn’t had a great game. It will happen again....for every player on our team.
Not a question of what kind of game he had.

He can't get open in the flow of the offense.

We have better options to play rather than Connor. Fran needs to pull him when he’s jacks a 3

If he's not capable of making an open 3pt shot, then why play him? 17 minutes for a guy that other teams don't have to guard is too much. He's a 5 min per game guy, and Perkins can play better defense and provide offense. Jbo at least has to be guarded.

JBo had 20 points against Virginia. Sure he had a bad game tonight. It's about matchups. He's still one of our most important players.

He'll be very effective getting open against some teams and others he won't. Fran will just have to make the adjustment when JBo is up against someone that locks him down.

It's fran's fault.... He was saying before the season that they would be looking for Connor to score more, just off the bench. Parenthood can be a mental illness sometimes, evidently.

Connor is stealing minutes from players with an actual future as an Iowa player. He should just join fran's staff at semester but he will probably milk this situation for a 6th year since he can

There are better options for minutes than Connor. He has a very limited role for this team. Maybe there might be a night when he can bring some steadiness and experience that warrants more than 5-10 minutes. Tonight wasn't it.
Bohannon is a tougher call. It's the same issues with him as it's always been. When he's shooting lights out from deep, it's ok to leave him in despite his defensive deficiencies. When he's not hitting, though, Fran struggles to sit him soon enough.

Exactly, all based on matchups. Bohannon was great against UVA and their tempo. We needed better on ball defenders and JBo couldn't get open. It's a good switch.
Big ten teams know who he is and know how to defend him. They know how little room he needs and they don't give him any.

It usually doesn't carry over the same way to out of conference opponents.

Jbo is an easy defensive assignment but you have to defend him differently than other guards.

You have to overplay his dribble in a way that would allow other guards to go around you.

If you give him the normal space like Virginia did he will shoot it in your face.

He wasn't shooting any sort of way tonight.

He'll always knock down some shots if he can actually get them off.

Problem is against many teams he can't get shots off.

sorry to make another irrational ignorant post but I have to say that there is something wrong when the poorest shooter on our team takes four 3 pt shots in the first half. could also comment on Rebracas lack of defence. and offence
I can give Rebraca some leeway to adjust to this level of play. He came from North Dakota (the Fighting Sioux) after all.....

Bohannon needs to go to Fran and convince him to run more sets to free him up off of screens. That's what his game has to be now, or at least against good competition.

And Connor needs to gtfo, but since that's not gonna happen, then what he needs to do is be like all the kids that come off the bench of a poorly coached HS team where the coach just tells his non-star players to go set screens for everyone else and to never shoot the ball if you do get it, or you'll be on the bench (yes I had multiple coaches like this).

I would be that poor coach and tell Connor to set screens and never shoot the ball if he has it in his hands, unless he's wide open under the basket.

In all seriousness, they need to get him off the 3 pt line. I know they typically run a 4 out, but Connor can't be one of the guys camping outside the arc, because that's how he winds up with the ball unguarded and teams daring him to shoot so they can rebound his miss........................

The only jump shots I want to see Connor take ever again would be from the FT line extended inside the arc, and that's it.

Obviously, none of that will happen, so I'm fine embracing my resignation to disappointment.

I don’t have a problem with the minutes, with the foul issues that we had, but yeah, he needs to stop shooting threes
All joking aside but imagine how it would be if he hit a game winning 3 none the less against Iowa State next Thursday? How many 3’s per half will he toss toward the bucket?

Not hitting is not hitting.
Whether it's due to him being unable to get decent shots off or he's getting looks but missing, he needs to sit.

Exactly. He was getting blown by and not fast enough to get open.

and we all yelled at the screen every friggin time it looked like CMac was gonna shoot. Either you can blame us for distracting him before the CLANG we all knew was coming, or you can blame him for thinking he should EVER shoot a 3. And usually he shot when no one was near the basket for a rebound.

CMac’s shooting and JBos “defense” cost us a massive road upset.

Perkins and Ulis and Joe should play most of the time. No way Fran can deny it or deny them. Or he will lose most of the b10 games and struggle to make the NIT.

Theres no way to hide Connor on offense. When the opponent is purposely leaving a guy unguarded the ball will find him.

He is playing pretty good defense at least.

Fran played 9 players 16 minutes or more tonight

It should stay at 9 players when Keegan comes back but it won't.

min/player:
28 PMac
26 Kris
23 Perkins
22 JBo
20 Ulis
20 Filip
19 Connor
16 JoeT
16 Josh

yep. before the season began, Fran said Connor was his 6th man

he does some things well; shooting is not one of them

There was an extended point in first half it was Connor, Pmac, Jbo, Big O and Perkins. That’s when Purdue extended its lead.

That lineup can’t happen. I blame Fran and is stubborn 2 foul rule and nepotism. You need to risk Joe T there to stay in the game. Connor shouldn’t see but spot minutes. To think Perkins only played 9 minutes vs UVA while Connor got 20.

Fran has to commit Perkins, Kris M and Sandfort to 20 plus each. Connor gets trimmed to single digits and Jbo down to 20. Watching Jbo play PG again was awful

Sandfort might be great down the road but he doesn't look ready for extended minutes to me. I agree with the other 2 along with Ulis.

He shoots 3s because the other team sags off of him when he's on the court because they want him taking these shots. Baited and hooked.

That’s what I mean to commit. Would you rather the 10 minutes go to Conner or developing Sandfort. We know what Connor is, his ceiling and floor are practically the same.

Sandfort is tall, has shown he wants to play D, has a good shot. Just let him weather the storm and reap the benefits on the back end of the schedule.

what could it really hurt, Connor taking 3s with 15 plus seconds on shot clock should be an auto benching.

To Fran’s credit he recognized this and sat JBo. Before anyone states, Fran should know Jordan wouldn’t produce, I say JBo deserves the right to try to produce. Some games he’s unstoppable. Other times, he plays a minor role on offense. The D is where he becomes a giant hole in Iowa’s defensive efforts. As many have stated, if he’s hitting threes, he stays in. If he’s not hitting three’s, he has to sit.
