Thought Tyler Barnes had some interesting things to say about several of Iowa's new additions via recruiting/the portal. Tried to summarize the highlights here (the full transcript is also at the link below):

Some highlights from Iowa recruiting coordinator Tyler Barnes' comments about Iowa's new additions via recruiting and the transfer portal over the last few months:

* Seth Anderson, the WR transfer from Charleston Southern, went to the same high school as former Iowa RB Tyler Goodson. He was a contender for the Jerry Rice Award, the FCS Receiver of the Year Award (42 receptions, 612 yards, 7 TD). He was also a high-school wrestler, which is certainly a plus when it comes to the Iowa coaching staff — although as Barnes noted, it's not something they've seen in a lot of skill-position guys.

* Daijon Parker, the OL transfer from Virginia, played AAU basketball with Kaevon Merriweather, which gave Iowa a connection to help recruit him to Iowa. Barnes noted that Iowa had been looking at Parker prior to the December signing period and that he was a guy that they felt very strongly about. He also noted that the loss of Kadyn Proctor in recruiting also influenced the process, increasing their need to add talent at OL.

* Grant Leeper, a '23 TE prospect, played football for the first time since "peewee" days this past fall. His size caught the attention of Kelvin Bell and after he had a solid season on the football field, he stayed on Iowa's radar, with the offer coming during his visit last weekend. Leeper's prowess as a basketball player stood out to Iowa's staff, with Barnes noting that several past Iowa TEs have also been good basketball players. The size, leaping ability, and ability to box out certainly transfer well from one sport to the other.

* Rusty Feth is finishing his degree at Miami (OH) this spring and will join Iowa in June. He was on Iowa's radar because George Barnett recruited him out of high school and coached for a few years when Barnett was the OL coach at Miami. That past relationship paid dividends in getting Feth to come to Iowa for his final season.

* The Deacon Hill transfer came up when Carson May left after the bowl game, leaving Iowa very thin at QB, especially in spring. They liked Hill's familiarity with the Big Ten (coming from Wisconsin). Hill also had familiarity with Iowa offensive analyst Jon Budmayr, who was formerly on the Wisconsin staff and recruited Hill out of high school and coached him for a season in Madison.
