Tyler Cook and Chaminade playing on ESPNU

There are ten guys on the floor, but it has basically been a one-on-one game between Tatum and Fultz.

Cook hangs around the perimeter on offense quite a bit, but hasn't taken a jump shot yet. Cook looks to run the floor and shoot free throws well.

Thats what I hate about these tourneys that get on television. The selfishness really comes out in some of these guys cause they want to be the stud and steal the show so all the fundamentals go out the window and so does team play. I remember when they had the Barnes and MCDermott Ames team playing of the other top teams in the nation and it was fun watching the show boats get outplayed by McDermott who just did the small things right.

You are right. After the 3rd quarter Tatum has all but 8 of Chaminade's points. The only way Cook is going to get a shot is if he get's an offensive rebound!

Cook has 6 points and about 10 rebounds after 3 quarters.

Yup Cook looks good, had a HUGE block when Chaminade went on their run to get up by double digits. He is a pretty good defender, has a good vertical and looks like he will be a basabe clone. Kid can rebound and looks to be physical.

Agreed he doesn't get many looks on offense (I see why tatum averages 25+pts a game) the kid shoots damn near 30 times a game. Cook has a little step back jumper he showed early in the game. I think his offense will come, when he gets into a "team" situation. His role on this Chaminade team seems to be a screener and garbage clean up. Its pretty much Tatum 1-1 and that's it.

I like what I saw out of him today. I didn't realize Bohannon is a 4 star PG?

Agree-JaysonTatum is a self-absorbed, selfish, self-promoting tool that cares about one thing in the entire world-Jayson Tatum.

Hey dumbass-you've already signed your LOI-the recruiting game is over-try getting your bros into the game a little.

I like the Basabe comp but I think Cook has a better build already. We lose se height with Woody but I like the physical gifts of Wagner, Cook and Kreiner in the post to go with Uhl's inside-out game, which reminds me if a poor man's Uthoff. I like what Williams and Bohanon bring to the table but the only thing missing imo is a quick gaurs with the ability to take his man off the dribble on any given possession.

Cook is very similar to Regioe Evans and Greg Brunner. Paul Biancarfi said" he will be an all big ten player at Iowa."

I seriously think is why teams like Duke & Kentucky are struggling this year. Its great to get all the top recruits, but they are concerned about themselves and can't play the "team" game that it takes to win it all. I realize Duke won it last year, but they also had some "elite" talents on that squad and were loaded. They also had some upper classmen to help out.

Ben Simmons at LSU is an amazing player, but you see that he plays within himself most of the time. He has a solid group of players around him, and you saw vs Kentucky. He didn't force it and played the "team" game and they won. He didn't need to score 30pts. I am impressed how he plays.

I saw the same thing with Bacon at FSU last year. I mean wouldn't these coaches be teaching the "team" game? I realize these guys are amazing basketball players, but 1 player can't win a championship.

Really like what I have seen from cook the last two games vs top talent. Good hands, athletic, nice touch from 15 ft. nose for the rebounds...a Reggie Evans with skills. Gonna be a 4 year starter.

I understand wanting to do player comparisons with fellow Iowa players, but I don't think we've ever had a player like Cook at Iowa before. I certainly don't see much resemblance to Brunner or Evans.
From an athletic standpoint and the ferocity that he attacks the rim and wants to dunk everything he reminds me of Shawn Kemp or Larry Johnson.

He had a good earlier game with multiple dunks. Definitely a 5 with mobility. A can't miss from what I've seen.

I'm sure there'll be a learning curve, but he is clearly a big building block for the future of Iowa BB and, because we have no one like him and we'll be thin in the post, he has a chance to start right away.

Cook and Kreiner will be 10 fouls in the post next year. This team will be big, athletic and very physical in the paint area next year. Williams and Moss will also be critical pieces, imo. Dom and PJ are starters and hopefully Baer remains the 6th man. Wagner and Hutton will also be big pieces of the puzzle, imo.

One thing I really like about cook is he is nothing like the ego maniac ball hog tatum. Cook could be doing more but he is a team player, tatum, not so much. We got a good one coming to iowa city next year. Can't wait to see him in a hawk uniform.

I wonder if we see Iowa press even more next season. With so many young guys, the offense might struggle at times in the halfcourt, but with the increased athleticism, the press might be a way to help the offense. We saw how it helped get the offense going in the Purdue game this year.

Don't forget Dale Jones. He was getting more playing time early than most of these other guys, so he'll be on the floor to start the year, if I were to venture a guess.

Tatum has such a completely different mindset compared to Tyus Jones, who led Duke to the national title last year. Guys like Tyus look to create opportunities for their teammates first, and then in the flow of the offense pop important shots or drive to the basket effectively. There were so many times in high school where I saw Tyus head into the latter part of the game with only 10-15 points and then the other team would start fouling and he would make about 10 straight free throws. Sounds like Tatum gets his 25 by forcing shots and hogging the ball from start to finish. Good luck at Puke and the NBA - I won't be watching.

All the guys you mention could be pieces of the puzzle, and you forgot to mention BE, Fleming, and Bohannon- who will probably get some minutes by default. Agree that Dom and Jok are the foundation. To get good match ups, we'll probably need to get a 3rd critical piece from one or more of Cook, Moss, Williams, Jones, but you never know about development sometime. In the meantime, we've got a pretty good team playing for Iowa now.
