Now that Tom has in his front page story taken issue with the official roster stats by stating that Tyler is 6'8" rather than 6'9", do we have a new controversy? I thought I'd read over a few months ago that he was pushing 6'10". The truth is out there.

Player heights, women's ages, waist sizes. All statistics willfully "fudged" by the parties involved.

Anyone who played pick up games in the old Fieldhouse when players used to occasionally show up there knows that the heights given for players were often "revised" upward. At least, from personal experience, that was the case in the early 90's.

I overheard Bruner say last night in a pickup game (cards not bball) that Cook is a freaking giant but we shouldn't "gas him up" just yet.

I stood next to him a few times and more importantly, I saw h standing next to other players in the PTL. I'd believe 6'9 in shoes. Maybe even 6'10 in shoes

There's one guy not listed on the roster. And he's not in the team picture! Charlie Rose is back, walk-on from 2014/15. He's a guard. Personally I think he's back to start at point guard because no one else is ready.

No disrespect to Tom, as it was probably an oversight, but the official roster lists him at 6'9 253. I'll go with that and not worry. If numbers are fudged, pretty much everyone does it. That means our 6'9 guy may only be 6'8, but he's probably the same height as the other guy's 6'9 guy.

?? Rose is on the roster on the official website.

I have a bad habit of using ESPN. Surprised it was updated on the official website. Anyway, I'm kind of making fun of players not being ready...I'm certain they are all ready, just going to be a little prone to mistakes for awhile.

Never understood why the distance to the top of someone's head was that important. Standing Reach/Wingspan/Weight/Vertical/Shuttle Time Those tell me a lot more than does height.
Because generally long arms come with a skinny body and there is something to be said for being strong and physical. I'll take a big/strong physical 6'10" player with a 6'10-7' wingspan over a 6'10" skinny post player with a 7'4" wingspan any day.

Tom Davis, IIRC, tended to list his interior guys 1-2" shorter than they actually were.

Street (roster 6'8" but 6'9" or better), Bowen (roster 6'7" but 6'8.75" w/o shoes in draft camp) and others I recall actually being taller than listed.

The only coach I can recall doing this. Most others seem to measure their guys in shoes and then round up.

You'd take Brennan Cougill over Kevin Durant? Let's stop with the generalities.

Clearly the rank order of measurements should be:
  1. Chest - if Jared Uthoff can wrap his arms around you, you are too skinny
  2. Calves - if Gerry Wright can reach around your calves with both hands, do not want
  3. Distance between eyes - pupillary distance should be between 65 and 70mm
  4. Length of 2nd toe - if longer than big toe, eliminate. That's just weird.
  5. Earlobe - must be able to handle a 100 carat stud w/o being able to be ripped out by Bob Sanders
  6. Neck - ideally long enough to handle 3 O-Rings from the Space Shuttle (think Merton Hanks) in a National Geographic style ornamentation
  7. Legend Test - should be able to stand 20" away from a Jenga tower and be able to knock it over by simply turning 90 degrees at the waist
If you can't play Big 10 PF with those measurements, you probably aren't qualified for anything.

Years ago, Kent Hill and Ed Horton were absolute beasts in the paint and were not very tall.......

I think Cook is 6'8"-6'9". He's been listed elsewhere as tall as 6'10". Uthoff and White actually appeared to be their listed 6'9" because of their lankiness and were found later to be not quite that tall. Cook may appear shorter than he actually is because he's so much thicker in his body.

Measured 6’8.5’’ in shoes, with a 6’11.5’’ wingspan and 244 lbs at the 2015 Nike Basketball Academy... that was Spring of 2015! Tyler said he was 6'9.5" and 255lbs last April when measured and I'd say that's accurate.

Rodman and Pippen might disagree with you
