Tyler Cook Offers

The big deal is what he means in relation to THIS recruiting class for Iowa.

You must not be lookin closely. His offers include: Arkansas, Iowa, Florida, Iowa State, Missouri, Virginia, Alabama, Illinois, Kansas, Kansas State, Marquette, Memphis, Michigan, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Tennessee and Wake forest.

The big deal is Tyler Cook will help put us on the map. We are going to be a good team next year (and this year) already, but with him we have a chance to be a Great team.

We have tons of ball handlers and shooters. Low on the bigs. No offense to what we have and what we have coming in, but TC will complete our roster. We will be able to run, and bang with anybody....

Either way, we will be good. From now until at least 2022... Thank you Fran!

The kid is a total stud. I am not one of the doom and gloom guys as I like what I have read about our 3 commitments in this class but Cook is a national-level recruit. We have 3 Iowa guys. I'm not saying that it's a terrible thing but it's there. If Fran whiffs on Cook then he missed out on quite a few major prospects and it starts to make you wonder why they can't close on guys. Iowa is never going to win a recruiting battle against a Kentucky as with Ulis but you have to win some of the battles for guys like Cook if you want to move up the pecking order. I hear it's down to Iowa and Florida even though Missouri hired his old AAU coach. It should be interesting. He is a beast and I would love to see him end up at Iowa.

How soon we forget that Iowa beat Florida for Fleming this past year.

Let's repeat the feat and bring Cook into the fold and We'll be ready to run and gun at CHA!

Im game, what do you say tyler? Come be a part of great things, become a hawk please.

That's kinda wat I thought
With the graduations this coming year and last, Hawks need a physical, athletic big. Cook fits the need perfectly, and would give Fran a recruiting win on a first priority, out-of-state recruit. Those wins have been hard to come by. I think some posters are maybe hyping up the impact Cook could have a little, but he would give Fran much more of a full arsenal of players going forward.

Cook would be a huge get for this class as it would give Iowa two legitimate top 150 players (Pemsl pre-injury is certainly top 150) and two solid role players. Without Cook, the class looks bottom 1/3 of the conference, at least on paper.

We are entering a key time in Coach Fran's tenure. I expect the Hawks to be quite competitive this year at the very least, but we will be losing some excellent seniors after the senior. It wouldn't surprise me to see Iowa take its first step backward of the Coach Fran era after this year, but landing Cook would be a huge piece in keeping this from happening.

We'll see what happens. I'd love to have Cook as a Hawkeye. But there are a bunch of reasons to be optimistic, or pessimistic, about 2016/17. We will all have a better idea as this coming season progresses.

Wow, Judge Smails?

th

"Betting is illegal at Bushwood, Sir!" And then later when he thinks he has an edge, here come the bets! I wouldn't bet Hans?n???? Bob, not because you might lose. But if you win he'll never pay up.

I'm sure we'll get a nice post from you about why we shouldn't be concerned once we miss out on Cook, Dan. ;)

Be as concerned as you want. Must be a dang miserable way to follow a college basketball team when missing recruits is just part of the business. But that's up to how one wants to view things I suppose.

Me? I'd love to get Cook. But I'm not going to commit Seppuku if we don't. We'd have to find a way to make things work with Jones, Uhl, Wagner, Baer, Pemsl and Kriener.

It's rather simplistic, in my opinion, to think that success or failure in 2016/17 is going to depend on one Power Forward. And if you think I'm being optimistic? No, not in this case. We could get Cook and find ourselves so short on experience that the key to our success (recruit, retain, develop) is hampered by the much more important problem that we'll only have three upperclassmen!

So no, I'm not telling you or anyone else not be concerned if Cook goes elsewhere. It's like someone looking in the icebox and saying there's no steak! Well, yeah, but look deeper and you might find there's no meat at all! But, maybe I shouldn't say that, might set off a panic. :)

So again, a big key to 2016/17 is how the seven freshmen or redshirt freshmen develop in one year. While I'm enjoying 2015/16, that's what I'm going to be watching as to clues for the 2016/17 season. Cook could be a great pickup, but he's only one card Bean, only one card and that alone doesn't make a winning hand.

Tigerboard.Com, theantlers.com,

thanks...I typed in Tyler Cook and hit search on this site....there have been 2 posts in Sept...both seemed a little worried about their chances..I guess I don't see the posts that say its a done deal...here are the 2 posts...

Tyler Cook is looking less and less likely. Arlando would be a big get.

I'd feel better if Tyler Cook's name was on that list.

we may not get Cook..who knows...but I really don't see how the Missouri posters know anymore than a couple our HR Lounge posters.

Bob, Like you, Most of the posts I read are about Arlando Cook being an important get now that they feel they may not be getting Tyler. I visited several different Mizzou boards and no where did I see anyone thinking Tyler Cook was a done deal, Most still think he is leaning towards Iowa.

Disagree that we have a lot of good ball handlers. We need some really strong handlers with B1G and elite defensive pressure. That, to me, is the only thing we are going to lack as our roster stands now.

It's the trend we don't like Dan. Miss out on Cook, and we have a bottom of the barrel B1G recruiting class. At some point, those bad classes will be catching up to you.

Especially coming off Fran's best season to date. You can only "coach em up" so long.

Bright person once said, it's about the Jimmy and the Joe's.

Here's a trend. You've been complaining about recruiting for two years. And you've been predicting doom and gloom, for two years.

Old expression, the definition of insane is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

There is a top 100 PF visiting Arkansas the same weekend Tyler Cook is visiting Iowa. Also, Malik Monk, a top 10 player in the class of 2016 is from arkansas and kentucky wants him badly. Going after monk is goo to take up a lot of the arkansas coaching staffs time.

What is this kids time frame?

Cook? He was originally going to announce and sign in the Fall but after his Florida trip there were some quotes that they may take more time, so they can evaluate the new Florida staff perhaps? So he could slip to a spring signee and if that's the case I can see why Fran may be keeping his options open.

I still feel however, that Fran and the Hawkeyes may seal the deal when Cook has his official to Iowa City for the Pitt game. Family and Tyler has been real high on the hawkeyes and know what's there for him. I'm hoping they see it as better opportunity than Florida and put the waiting aside and make a commitment and sign this fall with Iowa.

Good post. I like the idea that in under four hours a person can drive from St. Louis to Iowa City, or take the nearly eleven hour drive to Gainesville. Of course someone could say one can always fly, but then there is the rotten flight, renting a car, waiting in airports, and you don't get to pick when you want to leave or return.

I'm hoping that Tyler surviving the visit to Florida without a commit is a good sign, though I know they are setting up an in home with Florida. Nothing is settled, but hopefully a good visit and sit down with the coaching staff could iron out any concerns the Cooks may have and he becomes a Hawkeye.
