Tyler Cook Starting For Pistons Tonight

I doubted he’d ever play in the league let alone start.

Wow, he’s obviously put in a lot of hard work these last few years.

Congrats to Tyler!

Athleticism is still king in this sport. As was proven in the tourney again this year.

Cook with the steal and the stuff!
That was big. As was a late rebound. 12 points, 6 rebs. As a (mostly dormant) Pistons fan since my youth, I can tell a lot of Pistons fan love him and have been calling for him to get more PT and he’s gotten many more minutes in the last two games. Needs to hit those free throws though.

Lots of Hawkeye fans in there too. Man, he caught hell from some of the people on this board a few years back. Dude is working hard and proving people wrong. Nothing but the best.
I was a big TC fan (still critical of him at times I’m sure), but I remember that my biggest gripe was that Fran tried using him in a LeBron type of role where he would be a primary ballhandler and frequently turned it over. It’s pretty evident now that this wasn’t, and isn’t, Tyler’s game and that he’s a huge pick and roll + transition threat. He took it upon himself to be “the guy” his last year at Iowa, but what he really needed was a quality guard who could get him the ball in pick and roll situations. It’s too bad that Toussaint and Cook’s years at Iowa didn’t line up. That would have been a blast to watch

Glad to see his huge upwards trajectory so far in the league. Hopefully he can put in a good word about Fran and our Hawks back in St. Louis

Can't argue that. He did pickup a lot of turnovers because of what was asked of him. He took the ball up the court a good deal, depending on the scenario. JT and Cook would have been a great combo.

From ESPN:
Detroit's Cook notched his career high against his former team in his first career start.

Undrafted out of Iowa, Cook played 11 games with Cleveland last season.

"It's been a long journey for me," Cook said. "For me to have a team and a front office and GM that believes in me, a coaching staff that believes in me too and all my teammates, means a lot.

"I'm glad I got that opportunity and I'm glad that it resulted in a win for us."

Leading scorer tonight shooting 7 for 8. 3 for 4 on free throws. If he could just get some rebounds, it would help. But can definitely compete in the league.
