Tyler Cook

I hope it works out well too. He's a good one. Wish he could convince his teammate to join him.

I expect this kid to start from day 1. Reminds me a little of Doug Thomas or the plethora of big inside athletes MSU always seems to have. He is going to let Fran play the style of ball he truly wants to play.

Looks very athletic...hopefully he develops skills to go with his athleticism. The makeup of the team is definitely changing. I like the quickness/hops we are getting...but I also like the 3pt shooting we currently have..hopefully we maintain a good mix.

I would temper expectations a little bit. His athleticism will transfer. But he's slightly undersized at the post, and I would not expect refined offensive skills. I'm thinking a rich man's Ahmad Wagner is what we will get--athletic, high energy, attacks the rim, runs the floor, but perhaps somewhat limited in the half court.

At least those would be my expectations of him as a freshman.

What exactly do you think expectations are? What I'm seeing is that Cook's very athletic and will probably rebound well. As a freshman, since we'll need that and he is a physical specimen unique to the Fran era, he could actually start. That not unrealistic.

Well the the guy that started the thread said he's more excited about Cook than any in the last 10 years. I don't what other people expect, but expecting an above-average Big 10 starter as a freshman is going to lead to disappointment.

Drew, I understand your wanting to temper expectations and all but you should really do some research on what is expected by scouts out of a player of Tyler's ranking. He is in fact projected to be exactly what you claimed is too much to ask for, an "above average starter". Granted that's on an average team, so wether he starts or not depends on how good Iowa is at his position. Again I respect your attempt to not blow expectations out of the solar system for a freshman, but with elite recruits you really can have some expectations, enjoy it!

I think your dead on if your talking about us expecting a super star right out of the gate, but Tyler will be the best recruit for Iowa for quite some time.. The original post is not out of line at all.
