I went to the spring practice at WDM Valley last year. I'm almost certain Wiegers was the #4 QB at the time. Just based off that practice, Iowa is in real trouble if he has to play. He was CLEARLY the weakest arm of the four there, and bad accuracy on top of it. Ruddock and Shimonek (probably misspelled) are gone, so it leaves Beathard and Wiegers. It's also my sincere hope that I'm not throwing the kid under the bus, and that he just had a really bad day, coming off an injury, etc. His arm could've improved in the interim, but I can't imagine it being light years better. From what I've seen, you either have a cannon or you don't. Keep in mind I just saw him for one practice too, so the sample size is minuscule.
Of the four, the guy who had the best practice arm was Shimonek. The ball just flew out of his hands. Keep in mind it's just a single, non-contact practice, but I'll be curious to see how he does after transferring.

Looks like, as someone mentioned, everything is out of the shotgun but it seems arm strength is not an issue.Originally posted by Iowa Hog:

Wiegers was still in high school during last year's spring game, so...Originally posted by SteinPizza:

AMEN....I hope this answer anyone's questions about Tyler. Well done Rocket!Originally posted by Rocket98:
Tyler was a 4.0 GPA out of Detroit County Day. He was rated 13th best Pro Style QB. He was a 4 STAR out of HS. He is the oldest of a very large family. In watching his hs tape, and some practices last year, bowl prep, and two practices this spring here is my opinion of Tyler.
*Great FB IQ,
*Great pocket presence
*Came from a hs which had a very diverse offense. He played under center, shotgun, play action, roll out, and some read option.
*He is a long strider when he takes off and runs. He's a lot like JR in that he is deceivingly fast in the open field but probably not going to juke to many linebackers out
*Solid mechanics
*Accuracy is above average (not as accurate as JR)
*Very good, but not great arm. (Stronger than JR, but not as strong as CJ
*Inconsistent- Needs reps with the #2's (Played much of the year on scout team)
*Needs to continue to learn the Iowa system
*Unselfish (Team Guy!)
*I'd not feel great if Tyler had to take over our team tomorrow, but with Spring, Summer, and Fall camp I feel real confident that he could step in next September if need be and do a good job.
Offer list Bowling Green, Cent. Michigan, W Michigan, Rutgers, Toledo, Iowa. For some strange reason power 5's weren't exactly pounding down the door for him. Hope he turns out to be a good one.Originally posted by Rocket98:
