Could this be a cruel April Fool's joke?

But seriously, in the women's game, apart from U Conn winning most of the National Championships, there is actually quite some parity otherwise. In the last few years, a lot of teams that were never good before made the final four: Texas A&M, Louisville, Kentucky, Washington, Oregon State, Florida State, Syracuse, Mississippi State, and so on. Baylor and South Carolina, many might say they have always been on the top. But no, they weren't very good just 10, 12 years ago.

One year ago . . . now think about this . . . ONE year ago in the sweet sixteen, UConn beat this same Mississippi State team by . . . SIXTY points: 98-38. Based on that plus UConn's 111-game win streak, last night's MSU win has to be one of the greatest upsets in the history of sports. Truly unbelievable.

It reminds me a little of Iowa's football team being crushed 57-0 by mighty Nebraska, when Nebraska really was mighty, in 1980, and Hayden Fry's Hawkeyes coming back the very next season and upsetting Nebbie, 10-7. Incredible turnarounds are possible in college sports, and when they happen, WOW! That's fun.

They must have learned a few things from the beating they took last year. Congrats to them!
One thing they possibly learned from that beat down is how to play a tempo game with UConn. The post game recap said that Miss St. utilized the most of the shot clock on every possession, which frustrates high powered teams like UConn.

Its funny, was just thinking after last rounds games that something needed to be done with womens college hoops. With UConn seeming unstoppable, and Baylor beating a tourney team by 90pts, it seemed like changes were in order. Of course when Iowa reeled off 23 straight NCAA titles in wrestling, even some in the media called for action. As we saw, all things come to an end. Maybe this will bring a wave of confidence to womens teams that the Goliaths like UConn, and Tenn, and Baylor can be slain. Now if only we can find Alabama's Kryptonite!

When was the last time that the same University (South Carolina) had both men's and women's teams in the Final Four the same year in both tourneys? I seem to remember a Big Ten team doing it some years back.

Edit: I guess Syracuse did this last year. Michigan State did it back in 2005. UConn has done it three times. And they are the only school to have their teams win both tourneys the same year, which might upset the Huskies just as much in losing their streak in also losing that unique point in history as well if South Carolina wins both men's and women's tourneys this year. I will be rooting for the folks around here to celebrate the Ducks winning, and perhaps having an all northwest final here. Would be fun to see them celebrating around here.

I bet that blew up a few brackets! Congrats to Mississippi State.
And blew up all the ESPN stats and stories planned for today during their final. The commentary tonight should be pretty weak since the won't able to interrupt their UConn stories with a little bit of basketball.
Oh well, I guess the Samuelson family can go back to being regular folks and their yachts and mansions now that their daughters are done for the year.
