During Wednesday's radio show, KF said he is excited about Jay Scheel's future. He’s doing fine, but there are other guys ahead of him. The top four receivers this year: two seniors, two juniors. There will be opportunity for Jay next season.

Injuries and a new position has kept him back. If he can get healthy and the light switches on we might really have something here. I hope he perseveres.

It's hard for some to realize that maybe others are just better WR's at this point. 4 star in HS doesn't mean you automatically play.

That's the thing, I look at the players ahead of Scheel on the depth cart and if he can't beat them out then he's not very good.

He's a redshirt freshman. WR is a new position to him. He was injured last year and didn't practice until prepping for the bowl game. He made some progress in his development as a WR and moved up the depth chart and then was injured again to start this season. At this point, not sure if he is 100% healthy or not but two of our top receivers are seniors with +3 yrs of playing experience and our other top WR is a junior who leads the BigTen in receptions. Riley McCarron is also ahead of him but has been in the program, playing WR for 4 yrs so its not really that much of a surprise to be behind him. Jerminic Smith is getting reps ahead of Scheel because he's been able to practice all fall and has shown some signs of being someone that can help if needed. I am not concerned about Scheel's talent level, attitude or where he is at on the depth chart as a redshirt freshman. My only concern is whether injuries will keep him from practicing and developing into a quality BigTen player or not.

What oilchecker said.

If you guys had receivers that could get separation, your offense would be decent.

if you guys had a QB that could throw the ball downfield, your offense would be decent too :)

Currently, Iowa is ranked 56th in total offensive yards....UM 59th. Iowa is ranked 44th in offensive efficiency while UM is ranked 63rd. If we aren't quite decent, wonder what you guys are? :)

FTW!

I got to meet him at a tailgater after his senior year. Very nice young man, however, he had some major constructive surgery and looked very out of shape when I saw him due to not being able to be active. He is learning a brand new position and is more than likely just getting to 100% for the first time recently. Give it some time and hopefully he will be productive. I think he is a very solid football player, however, unfortunately I think he was a little over rated with his 4* ranking...especially considering he would translate to WR and/or DB.

If he can't beat out some of the scrubs that we have currently, I seriously doubt that he'll ever be a major contributor here.

Maybe one of those guys that does nothing until he's a senior, then we all go "where has he been for the last 4 years?", a la Cole Fisher.

That's just it. We don't see practice. For all we know, Scheel is a terrible route runner by comparison, or at the very least worse than the guys currently playing. It could be a multitude of reasons we have no access to know about.

Jerminic might very well be better than Scheel at this at this point and time. They (who are playing)...I have to believe - ARE better at what it takes to play today than Jay is.

If Jay isn't better right now than the others, then he doesn't deserve to play over them. It's that simple. We cannot assume right now that he is better and should be playing over them merely based on our opinions of his overall projection.

Be patient, folks. He'll get there.
