"Sometimes the biggest sin you can commit in D.C. is to tell the truth."
A second congressman admitted on Wednesday that the Republican House committee created to investigate the 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya, is solely "designed to go after" Hillary Clinton.

“This may not be politically correct, but I think that there was a big part of this investigation that was designed to go after people and an individual, Hillary Clinton,” Rep. Richard Hanna (R-N.Y.) said on a morning radio show in upstate New York.

Republicans say they formed the House Select Committee on Benghazi to investigate the attack. Democrats have complained that the committee, which has cost taxpayers about $4.5 million during its 17 months of existence, was primarily a political stunt.
But on Wednesday, Hanna suggested that McCarthy was being truthful.

"Sometimes the biggest sin you can commit in D.C. is to tell the truth," Hanna said.

Clinton, who has repeatedly said she is cooperating with the committee's investigation, is set to testify next week.

On Sunday, a former committee staffer alleged that the chairman, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), fired him for not focusing the probe on Clinton and the State Department.

Clinton's campaign on Wednesday held up Hanna's comments as further proof that the committee has "zero credibility."

"House Republicans aren't even shy anymore about admitting that the Benghazi Committee is a partisan farce," campaign spokesman Brian Fallon said in a statement. "After failing to produce any new information on the tragic 2012 attacks at Benghazi despite a 17-month investigation, John Boehner has reportedly urged the committee to shift its focus to Hillary Clinton's emails in an ongoing effort to try to hurt her politically. Hillary Clinton will still attend next week's hearing, but at this point, Trey Gowdy's inquiry has zero credibility left."

Your close but it would be never play politics with those who played politics with an American tragedy.

So because Clinton and or some Democrats did it, it's OK for Trey Gowdy to spend $4.5m on this commission?

Is that what we're really going with here? Jesus it would be nice if some people were willing to call out crap when their Party does it, instead of just when the other Party does.

Like you are doing now?

Like you are doing now?

I don't know who you would like me to call out on this? I'm not a Democrat and I'm not voting for Hillary.

I do dislike, the "Party of fiscal responsibility" spending $4.5m of the American Public's money to hurt the D candidate's Presidential campaign. Do you dislike that? Or are you OK with that, because "go team" is how you operate?

Well, fact is, through this investigation they found out that Hillary transferred classified information over an unclassified server when she said she never did it.

So it uncovered her outright lying about what she told the public and what she actually did. This makes her a liar, a perjurer, and a criminal.

Additionally, this low life scum of a human being stood in front of four coffins with four dead human beings and in front of the family LIED about a video knowing that wasn't the truth. She's a piece of shiite.

We don't have a Party of fiscal responsibility on either side.

Has there been things come to light since the investigation started that would not have? I think there is so in that regard the money is well spent.

Do we know the whole extent of how Clinton operated? The FBI doesn't get involved unless they see a need to and they are so I will wait until hearing from them before passing judgement.

Clinton answers questions and makes statements that turnout to be false but we are to believe there is nothing wrong. Sorry count me as a skeptic when it comes to her believably so I would like to see the proof.

Surely we could see the emails of all the republicans who were on the committee, others as well. Nothing wrong with that. We should also send Hillary the bill for the $4.5 Million, as it shouldn't have been necessary to go to great lengths to get the truth, and should could have just been honest.

I don't think there was ever a doubt the committee on Benghazi was about Hillary (well, and Obama initially), but at the same time she was doing illegal stuff and lying about it, so there should be a way to expose those politicians when they are deceptive.

It was Hillary's fault they spent that much? Trey Gowdy thought they could ruin Hillary. Every rock they turned up, nothing was there. He decided (rather than just conceding that there was not some big scandal) to continue looking under rocks for something that could ruin her. So no, it's not Hillary's fault that a committee solely designed to ruin her political career spent that much trying to do so.

We expect those types of responses from IMCC, Arb, Habah, etc. You surely don't want to end up in their company.

Congress is a political body. Everything either side does is in some part political. Does that surprise you? Even watergate had a pretty heavy political element to it according to Woodward

This kind of post amazes me. After months of denying any political angle, it is now very apparent that the only real focus of the committee was to damage Hillary Clinton's chances at the White House. And yet the Republican slurpers on this board see absolutely nothing wrong with this. Aflac says, nothing to see here, it's just politics. Twice now Republicans have initiated an investigation into the Clinton family that dug and dug until they found something they thought could sink this political dynasty. Isn't that just a little slimy to you?

The party of fiscal responsibility is spending millions on a political witch hunt. The Republicans are now admitting its true. Doesn't that bother any of you at all?

Well maybe it was because it was her fault and then she clearly LIED about it. Strange thing is that liberals apparently LIKE being lied to. The lies about the video were specifically for the idiots that vote democratic.

$4.5 million? Pfft.... a mere drop in the bucket of wasteful spending coming out of D.C.

And that makes it OK?

Is it OK if Congress spends $4.5m of your dollars investigating Trump, Bush, Rubio, etc? I can't believe people are just fine with this. This isn't BAU, even for this shit bird Congress.

I never said it was okay, only pointed out that WASTEFUL spending by congress is and always will be a part of their creed.

Is it ridiculous it cost that much? Sure. Did she do something wrong? Yes. Did she cooperate from the beginning? No. Should she have? Yes. Is it sad that people put together committees solely to take down political opponents? Yes. This isn't all one single issue, and while all sides bear responsibility in why it ever went this far, the money wouldn't have been spent had Hillary been honest and said "We made a mistake." It wouldn't have even been an opportunity to ruin her politically. So while she may not have been the one spending the money, she certainly was a major reason it was spent. We could be years past an ugly 7 days when the administration made a mistake, and had the guts to admit it, do what they could to make it right with the families, and move on. Instead, here we sit, bickering about how much it cost to reveal the truth Benghazi.

As for whose company you'd like to lump me in with, I'll leave that up to you. It's of no consequence to me, and I rarely pay attention to who says what.

Back when we all thought it was an actual investigation you were correct in making this response and placing some blame on Hillary. Now Troy Gowdy gets all the blame for spending 4.5 million of taxpayer funds to pay for a political campaign against Hillary Clinton. This was never an investigation no matter how much you want to spin it now.

Worrying about 4.5 million is laughable when compared to the trillions being wasted by our current regime.

The Republican led FBI is also political right?

50 staffers plus are going through all of her emails she tried hide.

I bet that's costing more than 4.5 million.

Why defend a liar?

Bad spending I can double it! We can do this all day against both parties!

Biofuel, Only $424 a Gallon: The Pentagon paid Solarzyme Inc. $8.5 in 2009 for 20,055 gallons of biofuel based on algae oil or $424 a gallon.

Only 9 milion!

Must... make... desperate... attempt to deflect from the truth that is seeping out about the reason for the investigation.

All the obfuscation and faux outrage in the world ain't gonna help Hillary if the committee, or the FBI, or the Justice Department, find she was bad girl. Her defenders in this thread ought to be embarrassed. Probably will be eventually.

So we're supposed to just allow this sort of blatant waste?

I have a sneaking suspicion you wouldn't feel that way if it was your guy being grilled (and I hate Hillary, hope she never becomes President, and would never ever vote for her).

Up front, let me say I'm not a Hillary supporter. But will you be embarrassed if they find she did nothing illegal?

If the FBI is investigating this as a criminal case, why is the Benghazi committee involved at all?

Of course it was but then she was Secretary of State and tried to sell the YouTube BS.

That criticism has to be the stupidest thing to get outraged over ever. It has absolutely no significance and it made perfect sense for what was known at the time.

It didn't make perfect sense. Was there before or has there been since an act committed with a video being blamed?

If you want to have a bunch of people storm the streets and march I will give you the benefit of the doubt. When you have a coordinated attack using mortars and grenade launchers I going to find it hard to believe they were just waiting around their laptops and grab those things after seeing the video.

Stick a fork in the GOP with this issue. Three prominent figures have admitted that the investigation is largely centered around attacking Hillary. It also puts into doubt her email problem since its the GOP rallying behind that issue, as well. But then again, this is kind what happens when you have no ideas of your own and have to rely on made-up scandals to try to get votes.

I'll answer for LC because he won't. No, no he won't be embarrassed. He'll just be silent on the issue.

If she had an R instead of a D after her name, you would not care one bit, nor would you call her all those things. You have zero credibility.

I don't even like Hillary. I am not going to vote for her. I am deeply troubled by her Wall Street ties. But I get sick of this distracting crap. The Republicans have chased the Clintons for YEARS spending millions of dollars for NOTHING.
