Iowa opens as a very slight dog against UNI, but I believe that this is goin to be a coming out party for this young Iowa team. I have watched several Big Ten games and especially watch their highly ranked freshman, i.e. Penn State and what I have seen convinced me that Iowa has the best freshman talent in the Big Ten. The problem is that Iowa recruits do not get the same love that recruits from other states receive. But love does not help you on the floor and I will taken our freshman over any other freshman. I am looking forward to not only the UNI game but the rest of the season as much or more than any season I can remember and my first Iowa game I went to had Dick Ives and Weir playing. I love this young team and wish them well. GO HAWKS

Wish someone could do something about that silly, "rookie" status on your post #'s. I'd say you earned a few letters on your jacket in the past decades. Thanks for being a great Hawkeye fan.

Win or lose, this is a fun team to watch (unlike the Lick days). I love watching this team too.

Someone in another post made the insightful observation that this Iowa team could turn out to be like Wisconsin last year. I agree. The Badgers looked pretty mediocre in the non-con, had a bad loss or two as I recall, started the Big Ten poorly, and then became one of the top teams in the league and had a great NCAA run.

There's no way to say something similar is inevitable for Iowa this year, but it is reasonable to suggest it could happen. Today may give us more information because, as usual, UNI won't be easy. I have great respect for them and, if they're shooting well, it will be a battle to the end. If Iowa can maintain defensive intensity and rebound, the Hawks should keep the momentum going and, just maybe, end up pulling a Wisky this season.

There are similarities, but only in the fact that Badgers lost some early games. Badgers went through the coaching change with Ryan resigning abruptly in December and Gard taking over. Badgers also had a very veteran team. Once Gard put his touches on the team and they got past Ryan not being there (and the associated scandal of his affair and the investigation into that) Badgers took off.

I just don't think this Iowa team is ready (yet) to play with the kind of consistent effort and attention on defense that Wisconsin last year could. Many of the Badgers last year were part of the Final 4 teams (Koenig, Hayes, Brown, etc) and they understood what type of effort was needed to win. This Iowa team is going to have nights on the road where they get drilled. And that's fine and part of maturing.

While this Iowa team is not without talent, last years wisky group was significantly better stocked. They had the tools to be a top 4 team in the league.
Hawks are young and with potential to be better, but they are still missing some pieces to get them in the upper echelon of the B1G.

UNI was a much weaker team than I thought they would be. With no inside presence, it could be a long year for the panthers.

Yeah have to remind myself not to read too much into a single game. But hard to see how they beat anyone good. I guess by shooting a bunch of 3's and making half of them. No post game and the only player who can go to the basket is Morgan.

UNI lives and dies by the 3 point shot and the flop in the lane. Tough sometimes to play against because they are so unorthodox. But make no mistake, Jacobson runs a gimmick system and recruits gimmick players. Once in a while he will have some real shooters and will make a mini run. They might even luck into a big guy and then actually make some noise. But what he does is not sustainable really. But it will (mostly) keep them in the top half of their conference which is good enough for most of their fans.
