The University of Iowa has agreed to pay one of its former track and field coaches $125,000 — plus another $15,000 in attorneys’ fees — as part of a settlement agreement that involved his voluntary resignation on July 22.

Clive Roberts, who had overseen women’s sprints and men’s and women’s horizontal jumps since 2009, also received his full salary and benefits for the duration of his employment — plus payment for accrued but unused vacation time upon separation.

The agreement was “not a resignation in lieu of termination,” according to the settlement, which was not an admission of university of state liability for any wrongful acts of violations of law.

As part of the deal, Roberts agreed not to seek work with UI again or host any camps on the UI campus. He also agreed not to sue the university, state, or Board of Regents.

“Employee agrees that the consideration stated above is the entirety that will be received for any claims or potential causes of action arising from or relating to employee’s employment,” according to the settlement.

During his time with UI Athletics, Roberts led student-athletes to 28 Big Ten titles, 48 All-American honors, and 27 school records, according to his bio on the UI Athletics website.
