Post heroes most have never heard of. I'll go first:

Rochelle Herman-Walrond is a former journalist in Florida. She became acquaintances with Jared Fogle – then a popular pitchman after his dramatic weight loss on the “Subway Diet”. The so-called Subway Guy regularly traveled for events and promotions related to healthy living. At one health-related event in 2007 she old police he’d made lewd comments to her about middle school-age girls and she made it her mission to bring him down.

There was an obituary in the Economist about a Russian general who recovered the most sensitively located nuclear material when the USSR collapsed.

Dude was a son-of-a-bitch who used any means necessary to get the stuff. Of the 30k nuclear weapons and 1.5 million kg of fissile material, none of it got into terrorist hands.

This guy gave so many imbreds hopes that he’d bring their team out of college football cellar. Instead he made them an even bigger laughing stock. A team with the longest streak of no bowls of any P5 school. Their fans still think they are a “blue-blood”‘school despite not having much of any national prominence this millennia.
He’s a true unsung hero to everyone outside of Nebraska and sheep everywhere.

Capt. Marko Ramius. Defected to America with the Soviet's secret silent propulsion sub. But the world never learned of it

I would include people like Alexander Vindman and others who put their own careers and interests at risk in order to do what's right, instead of those whose backbones turn to jelly when they are faced with standing up for what is right or for what they believe in.

This thread title and recently watching "Banshees of Inshireen" reminded me that this is one of the best movies ever made that hardly anyone talks about it. If you haven't ever watched it, do yourself a favor and put it on your list:

To be fair it’s part of the Criterion Collection, so it’s pretty high profile for a boutique title.

Random cowboy at Sidney Iowa rodeo circa 1982. I was 11 and riding a horse in a parade when it got spooked and bolted.

It was heading for a valley filled with parked cars and I honestly feared for my life. Suddenly I was plucked off the horse by one of the rodeo cowboys. CSB
