I don't get the ranking for the Goofs. Are they really going to be better than last year? Is their stud RB fully healthy now?

I take SP+ with a grain of salt. It’s just another bunch of numbers jumbled together to try to make sense out of a game that is often silly.

Nebraska was awesome last year and Utah State stunk, allegedly.

I listen to a podcast that has Bill Connelly as a regular guest. He’s often befuddled by how certain teams do well and others don’t, and he’s generally pretty fair and self-deprecating about it. And there was also this gem from last year:

The whole thread is worth reading.

it's possible that mn will be very good but my take is that they look at the teams only to rank inversely to schedule. hopefully iowa pulls out 1 or ideally 2+ of the big games leading to much egg on a lot of faces

Not sure if this is what your saying but power ratings do not take into account your schedule.

I don't get Minnesota love. They lost a lot on defense and they lost basically their whole OL. Their RB is back but is coming off of injury and their QB hasn't been good for a couple years now.

it looks like more of the same for the Hawkeyes: Elite defense and a pedestrian offense.
Pedestrian as in 'person walking down the sidewalk steps in a giant pile of dog poo' pedestrian? Last year's offense was god awful. Fingers crossed we see a much improved o-line and running attack.

Kentucky was ranked #26 in total defense last year; hopefully the two Wiliams can be as productive this coming year as they were in the bowl game.

Jesus, that OSU offensive rating is scary. They're 6 points better than the 2nd place teams - Alabama and Georgia. They'll be extremely hard to beat if they field any kind of a halfway decent defense this year

And they will. Knowles is a legit DC, and there’s some pieces in that defense that he’ll do well with.

The last few years have had some of the worst Ohio State defenses I've ever seen. Having a legit top10 DC pretty much ensures that Ohio State will continue their dominance in the B1G.
Try telling that to some of the Michigan followers and fanbase. Go to the MGoBlog board and they feel like they're ready to take over the B1G and dominate.

All it took was Michigan having probably their best defense since the last time they beat Ohio State, and Ohio State having one of their worst defenses in the modern era. With these changes, I really don't see Michigan winning again until they get a prolific QB.

Ummm...Michigan guy here and I recognize the talent difference between us and tOSU.

On the other hand, as long as Michigan doesn't try to be them (a fruitless path we've tried a couple times) Umich can beat them. Michigan won last year because it was built to play a game at the end of November in the upper-midwest. tOSU is built like an SEC team. Put that game in a dome or down south and it probably looks more like our game against UGA.

I don't know what you've been reading but myself and most of my fellow Wolverines that I know get that. This doesn't mean we aren't optimistic. When our best players play their best games on a cold day in November we believe we can win our fair share (right now). We have enough talent and if the culture (from last year) is sustained we like where we stand...that's all

For Iowa to be pedestrian on offense they'd have to make a big improvement from last season's sh!tshow.
I'll believe it when I see it.

Except that it wasn't even one of Michigan’s top 2 Ds over the past 5 years and tOSU's worst over that same time frame.

Besides that....solid analysis on your oart
