Upset over LGBTQ books, a Michigan town defunds its library in tax vote

What is wrong with you people?

"Gender Queer: A Memoir," by Maia Kobabe, includes photos of sexual acts between a boy and a man.

71 percent of Americans disagree with you.

I haven't changed anything.

The article said it was "a LGBTQ-themed graphic novel..."

Everyone of my posts has addressed the "graphic" aspect.

you don’t know what a graphic novel is do you…

graphic novel, in American and British usage, a type of text combining words and images—essentially a comic, although the term most commonly refers to a complete story presented as a book rather than a periodical.

Graphic Novel

No. The far right and religious want to remove books that are aimed at certain populations. Should we remove anatomy books as well.

This is from the book. This book wants to equate being the wrong gender to wanting their boobs removed because of cancer. Seems like this book is trying to rewrite anatomy/ physiology.

Ignoring all the dumb posts in this thread for a second, you would be surprised what libraries are required to offer and/or put up with. CSB time.

My sister in law (no pic) works at a public library. A couple years ago they had a guy coming in almost daily to look at porn on the computers. As long as he wasn’t in view of the youth department and had headphones, they HAVE to let him. He would come in, check out a laptop and take it to a corner of the library.

Apparently more than once he tried to take it into the bathroom 😂. That was obviously over the line.

A link that says 71% of Americans are ok with this graphic book in their public library?

71 percent of Americans DON'T WANT BOOKS removed from public and school libraries. People have different opinions. Evangelicals like you are in the minority.

This happened in the basement computer lab at the U of I too, circa 2002-2003. Obviously he didn’t try to take the desk top in, but it was mighty uncomfortable going up to the desk to sign out. He literally sat in the closest seat to the girl signing you in and out. How is that for some sociopathic behavior?

We're not talking about just any book. We are talking about this book. That's what caused the controversy in the OP.

Now please provide a link that supports the assertion that you made in post #42.

STFU. 71 percent of Americans don't want books removed regardless of content. You are dense.

Then don't read it.
Its not that easy.

Society has a responsibility to not make nonsense or in this case, false story lines accepted as mainstream truths.

What if a serial killer writes a book in prision about how great it feels to kill other people? Should we allow this in our public library?

Why have any rules at all if all you have to do is pretend stuff doesn't exist.

Hint: We would absolutely let a serial killers book in a public library. Nothing about Dahmer, Manson, Bundy, etc. You want to eliminate what others might find helpful or interesting. Thanks for the censorship.

Not sure what else you would call it. This is a book for children in the childrens section.
Tell you kid not to check it out and mind your own business. Do you believe another parent has no right to check out the book if it is something they think might be appropriate to a situation with their kid.

There are decency standards in terms of what type of media we allow kids to access. Kids can’t watch horror movies or watch pornography. They shouldn’t stumble upon books in the youth section of the library with pictures of blow jobs.

There are NO pictures of blow jobs in the book. Kids not watching horror movies? I watched Nightmare on Elm Street at a junior high birthday party. You are just a prude.

1. It wasn’t in the youth section. “Earlier this year, a parent raised concerns about the graphic novel “Gender Queer: A Memoir,” located in the adult graphic novel section.

2. There are no pictures of blow jobs.
