PBS Newshour has a good segment on our nuclear arsenal tonight.

We have 1500 nukes. Many are old, limited and in need of upgrading or replacing.

Newer versions include bombs with "dial-a-yield" and a cleaner nuclear footprint.

Some worry that the newer versions of the B61 make them easier and more likely to be used.

There is also fear that the current and future changes are being pushed more by the profit margin of the companies involved than with regard to US security.

I wonder how many people we could send to college for the cost of this nuke program? There was a time the left would have been all over this. There was a time the left insisted we go nuke free. That you hardly hear that voice is another data point in the argument that there isn't a strong left in this nation anymore.

Winning a dramatic reduction in nukes took a lot of steam out of the movement. Loss of the traditional enemy left a void. We are all too worried about terrorists and Obama coming for our guns to have the energy left for nukes.

Climate change (for liberals) and Islamofascism (for conservatives) have become the catastrophes of choice in the modern era.

Thank God, the Rock Island Arsenal is still repairing tanks
from WWII and collecting rifles from the Civil War.

Oh really? I thought everyone with a degree was. o_O

Nuke free is nice and all, but in a world where Russia has more than we do, it's not the best idea right now. Live into reality and understand that we must be prepared for battle. Though we don't need to be pre-emptive about it.

I am also anxious for Fallout 4 to arrive!

I would argue that there isn't a strong foriegn policy left in this country.

Also I'm not sure any serious candidate ever argued we should go nuke free. You can't go nuke free while other countries have nukes. You can reduce your arsenal of nukes but you can't eliminate them.
