10 players who can be better pros than in college (whelp) https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...ayers-better-pros-college-careers/7145622002/

"Ihmir Smith-Marsette, WR, Iowa: Getting open downfield was never an issue for Smith-Marsette, who routinely ran past defensive backs for big-play looks. But Iowa's shaky quarterback play left many of those opportunities unrealized, and he recorded just 25 catches for a team-best 345 yards a senior. Projecting as a deep-threat specialist, Smith-Marsette will have to demonstrate he can catch passes more comfortably than he did in college and avoid being erased by more physical defensive backs. But NFL teams will find ways to position him for success, particularly on special teams after he averaged 26.7 yards per kick return for the Hawkeyes."

My only question about that blurb is how many pro level DB's face while at Iowa. Whole different ball game at the next level.

That said, I think the Chiefs should take ISM.

Which is why he said he needs to avoid being erased by physical defensive backs.

It’s a shame Iowa doesn’t know how to get the ball to their playmakers more often to allow the offense to wear down the defense and win more games instead of always rely on the defense to make the stop and secure the W. Nate Stanley’s senior year is the perfect example with loses to Michigan, PSU, and Wisconsin, waiting too late to open up the offense.

Watch out for the Steelers taking a shot on him. If any team finds gems at WR in the mid rounds it's Pittsburgh. This goes for BSmith

Well, hell, if its in usatoday its practically absolute truth. Compared to the rest of d1 programs Iowa obviously has no idea what they are doing and the results prove it. Or maybe not 🤪.

Ihmir had a progressively less problem with drops, although even last season he still dropped more than a top flight receiver. The stupid thing about the article was its ignorance of the change in Iowa's offense last season. We did try to find the playmakers more often than merely running a game plan regardless of personnel. Ihmir ran screens, reverses, jet sweeps as well as the deep routes. Some of the failings were from "shaky quarterbacking", to be sure but some were from dropped balls or bad routes.

I do not think Brandon will make it. He is much to slow to be a vertical threat. It could have been scheme but BS never showed the ability to make those quick breaks into the middle. I can see a team having a few plays for a guy with his vertical but given the NFL's financial problems I cannot see keeping a roster spot open for a fairly limited player.

I gotta believe both BS and ISM will be pros.. ISM has pro speed and BS while not a burner is just physically a beast and hasn’t scratched the surface of his potential making plays..

Just read Dane Brugler’s article today in the Athletic. He has:
Nixon: pick 76, rd. 3, to NY Giants
Gholston: pick 115, rd. 4 to Dallas
Nieman: pick 206, rd. 6 to Colts
A. Jackson: pick 249, rd. 7 to Jaguars.

I looked at the list 4 times. Did not see ISM and Brandon Smith getting drafted. If I missed them, Please forgive.

Crazy, I think ISM is at least a 4th-6th round talent. This of course is just a mock, but I do think Alaric goes sooner than the 7th round. Man has he fallen. I remember him being ranked as one of the highest LT coming into the season.

I believe ISM gets drafted in the 4th or 5th round. Not certain about Brandon. He might have to go the UFA route. Alaric will go sooner than the 7th round. I agree with you he has taken a free fall in the rankings. Nixon will go in the second round I think.
