USA Today OP ED: Why did NCAA women's tournament selection committee stick it to Caitlin Clark and Iowa?

While I agree with Bluder's comment about the 4th 1 seed and 1st 2 seed, my issue is having to play Stanford in a very friendly area.

Everyone knows that "the powers that be" al;ways have it in for Iowa athletic teams....Be it phantom calls by basketball and football officials against Iowa, unfair scheduling, bad travel partners, whatever.....the litany is unending.......So why not IOwa women's basketball?
Honestly folks.....it has very little to do with "winning and losing".......but Iowa fan does LOVE the victim card....as does every fan base.
Play the damn game! Quit your bitchin'! Iowa has 2 at home this weekend. If they don't win and survive these two, nothing else matters.

We would have been in the West region either way. Indiana was going to get the Midwest, South Carolina and VT were going to split the East and South. If we both make it there the only difference would have been the jersey color.

While your correct that it really doesn't matter as far as the game, theres still something to be garnered by RESPECT. Its like being highly ranked in early season football or basketball polls. They really don't mean a thing, BUT, having your program given that respect, does matter, and it doesn't hurt recruiting either....

In my humble opinion, at #2 the UIowa women were overrated.....they have a damn good team but there isn't a lick of difference between them and Maryland...and Indiana is a bit better than both.......and nationwide there are the usual suspects....but they will sort this all out over the next couple of weeks.
UIowa made a massive jump from #5 or #6 to #2 in one week.....That to me was a real head scratcher. To jump ahead that much and have other teams fall that much, that late in the season???....Again...these gals are damn good.....and "the committee" looks silly not having them a #1....but methinks "the committee" is every bit as knowledgeable about women's collegiate basketball as are members of the media. And in this case, "the committee" counts more..............

Thoughtful post. Thank you. I don't disagree that Iowa was probably over rated at #2 in the last AP poll. And yet as the USA story pointed out Iowa played like gang busters the last couple of weeks while Indiana lost two of their last three games. frankly Miss Clark and her gals have beaten Indiana 4 or the 5 games they've played head to head, (all within basically the last year), so I'm chagrined to say that Indiana is somehow, "the better team", Just IMHO as well....

Iowa jumped 5 spots. Va Tech jumped 4 and got a 1 seed. Who has the more impressive resume?

I get what you’re saying, but the biggest difference imo is the challenge for each team in the sweet 16. Assuming scratch holds, Iowa faces a more than capable #3 Duke squad whereas Stanford gets #4 Texas. In a tournament where every game is its own story, I’d much rather have the Texas path.

Add in, if Iowa makes it to the Final Four, they will have to face South Carolina in the semifinal match up instead of finals. While on the other side of the bracket, Indiana and VaTech sit and won’t have to face USC until the finals if they make it that far, which I don’t think they will. I have a feeling UConn will have something to say about it all vs VATech then Indiana.
