I just watched the hilites of the usc vs Tx A&M bowl game. USC just loaded with receivers, how did they go 6-6 this year. And the other thought is how can Iowa not get at least one stud 6-3 type fast receiver with great moves, fast and with great hands?

This is the key to a much better hawk passing attack as one receiver like that who can make 6-8 grabs a game, draw double coverage at times which opens up your other receivers is a huge need.

Yes, we need the QBs who can put the ball on them also but I think that part is starting to materialize.

Maybe Buie and Howard become those types of receivers but the portal might be the quickest way to find one

Weak, soft culture is how they go 6-6.

I'd take any fast receiver with good hands. Dont have to be tall. Dwight's comes to mind.

So when Iowa goes 6 and 6 next year, do we have a weak culture?!? Winning six games next year might actually be generous.
There are a myriad of reasons why a team might go 6-6.

Sometimes it’s culture.
Sometimes it’s coaching.
Sometimes it’s injuries and lack of depth.
Sometimes it’s talent.
Sometimes it’s a tough schedule.

Sometimes it’s a combination of those things.

If Iowa goes 6-6 next year, it will be the latter two (and potentially injuries to boot).

Why can't Iowa get one? Those 6'3" fast receiver with moves have a lot of options and Iowa is not real high on lists of players who didn't grow up Iowa fans, nor does Iowa pay what other teams are willing to pay.
Nor run an offense attractive to wide receivers with options.

I think that can change with Lester however.
It can.

But who knows how much control Kirk asserts over the offense?

At least the offense this year was less predictable and actually had a little pre-snap motion compared to the slow-moving train wreck that characterized the Brian Ferentz offense.

That was problem keeping Brian one more year when it was obvious to everyone besides Barta and Kirk he was in over his head. Delaying the inevitable just put Iowa back another year and just think if this was year 2 for Lester. Not saying be easy but odds more in his favor attracting some more players, but the stink from Brian’s last 3 years, especially in passing game still attached to Iowa brand for offensive transfers (mainly wr & qb 2 positions we desperately need).

I agree wholeheartedly. People are like, “Brian is gone. Time to move on.” But the depths of despair he took this offense to are still being felt today.

Or they actually played a pretty tough schedule. Not all teams get to skate by playing one ranked team all season. I know this may be hard to comprehend for Iowa fans as your last few cupcake schedules have inflated your wins and egos a little. It becomes even more apparent when you play your bowl games.

It's just like those basketball coaches that don't recruit the athletic 7 footer that runs the floor and puts up 20/game.😅

Iowa State is ranked. OSU is ranked. Minnesota was good, and we won @ Minnesota. Our schedule wasn't a cake walk.

Most of us are very well aware we were fortunate to be in the B1G West all these years and the schedule being pretty easy this year.
