Uthoff Sighting

Last Thursday I was heading to Corpus Christi through Dallas and was rushing to my gate since my connection arrived late. As I hustled to my gate, I saw JH sitting at the gate talking on his phone. I said go Hawks and he saw my Hawkeye bag tag and said Go Hawks. I wished him luck on the draft that night and hurried on the plane.

I wondered if possibly Dallas was in play so was disappointed to see him not get drafted. He has some tremendous skills and very good range. I think that missed year really hurt him age wise and developmentally.

I wish nothing but the best for the young man.

The Seth Davis column was pretty unkind to Jarrod, comparing his athleticism to Gumby. I think that is a stretch. (pun intended) Jarrod has good hops and can get around people and make himself scoring opportunities and is a perimeter shot blocker. He could help an NBA team I feel sure. He would look much better with another 30 lbs of muscle though.

Seth Davis isn't qualified to hold Jarrod's jock strap. Those fricking talking heads really piss me off. I think he could help a NBA team but his perimeter game may work better in Europe. There is a lot of money to be made across the pond.

Comparing him to other players in the draft he didn't have the greatest numbers at the Combine. His vertical was 35th out of the 50 players that did it and his 3/4 court sprint was 47th out of 50.. Kyle Wiltjer and Perry Ellis get knocked for their athleticism all the time and they still jumped higher and ran faster than Uthoff.

I still think he has a good shot at making a roster though if he shoots well in the Summer League

Davis was quoting actual NBA scouts, not formulating the critique on his own. Also, the Gumbo reference was a compliment in that Uthoff was like Gumby since he can contort himself to get shots off around the rim. Overall, a pretty informative article.
