Uthoff v. Niang

You get one, who do want on your team and why?

This year I would take Uthoff, but otherwise would take Niang based on what he has done in his college carrier compared to Uthoff. Regardless both are great players.

Uthoff.
Niang benefits by playing in a system offense, whereas Uthoff can be plugged in anywhere and be highly productive. Niang is also a huge liability on defense, while Uthoff is top 5 in the nation in blocked shots.
Uthoff may have taken Niang's spot for 1st team All-American, especially as ISU continues to drop games which appears to be the case.

Uthoff. If he's on my team, we could possibly become friends and he might give me some of his NBA money. I'm not sure Niang will make much coin playing city rec in Des Moines

They're both pretty good. I'd lean Uthoff since he is better defensively, but you could make a case that Niang's offense is enough better that you'd take him.

But Niang is such an asshole that I wouldn't pick him. Uthoff is a good representative for Iowa, Niang is a poor representative for Iowa State. Its fun watching him cry after early tournament exits. Hope I get to witness it again this year.

Per Uthoff after the Purdue comeback, he and his teammates have "big nuts", whereas Georgeous Georges is just an all-around big dick.

Uthoff for the win!

Uthoff because he's a Hawkeye!!!! Not Niang because he's a Cyclone!! hehe Plus he's just plain better!!

Niang has certainly been better over his career but Uthoff is having a monster year. I'm sure both fan bases are very happy with what they have this year in each player. I'm biased but Niang is going to end up being the winningest player in ISU history and will end up a top 3 scorer so I'll take him. Uthoff is a much better defender though

I we are talking about this year it is for sure Uthoff.

While Niang has had the better overall college career I see them as a push on the offensive end with maybe a slight edge to Niang. But if you talk defense and rebounding it isn't close. The more complete player would be Uthoff.

I think both are great players. Iwould take them both, if I had to pick just one, I would take Utoff this year, every other year I would take Niang all day long. This comparison is kind of stupid, because they both are the team leaders and they are both the "guys" on their team. If either teams loses them, they will struggle.

Hope Cyclone nation can knock off Boomer Sooner and move the hawks up another spot!

Niang has had a better college career. Uthoff has a much higher ceiling. Uthoff will likely have a decent career in the NBA. Niang will most likely spend the next 10 + years in Europe.

I don't think the best college player translates into the best NBA player. Look at the #1 draft pick busts.

Told my sister after leaving the Purdue game that I thought Uthoff was the best player on the floor in every one of our games thus far. Not necessarily the best player in each game, but the best overall. Said I would not even trade him for Niang (who at the time I felt was 2nd behind Jared). I feel even more strongly about that now.

That was before we played MSU. I wonder how many of us would trade Uthoff for Valentine? That is a tough choice.

Its not close...Uthoff, who WILL win the Wooden award you heard it here first. Niang has been pretty good but its not like he was a 20 ppg guy before this year either.

That kid from Oklahoma will make a run at the Wooden Award from what I've seen.

i was impressed with OU. Dang they have some shooters, but their big men struggled last night. ISU made it a point to force OU outside the Perimeter and it paid off. Big Win by cyclone nation, now they have to take care of business on the road. They host KU next Monday, should be another good one.

Niang because he is such a difficult matchup for teams and he also makes his teammates better because he is such a great passer.

Hield from ou is an offensive superstar. He is as pure a shooter as they come.
Not overly impressed with him as a defender or on the boards.

He's actually pretty good at both. He is very active on defense and is really athletic plus averages 5.6 rebounds a game

You can't go wrong with either of these guys. But I would take Niang for my college team and Uthoff for my NBA team. I don't know if Niang's game translates to the NBA, but Uthoff with a little more strength looks like he has a great chance to stick in the NBA.
