He's going to make a lot of mistakes but it will be worth it in the long run to get him minutes.Somebody needs to make that "It's just the PTL" post because I am starting to think this kid is gonna get major minutes this season. He WILL have to learn to guard, though.
I don't think you will see too many freshman mistakes made by Fleming. Oak Hill Academy might have served as his 1st year of college, in a way, so to speak. His game is pretty well rounded and he plays with a high IQ.
At Oak Hill, he was able to play 40+ games, most against high quality competition, much better than what he would have experienced at Ensworth HS. Andrew mentioned this when interviewed after his latest PTL game - that Oak Hill prepped him to make the transition to college ball a lot easer.
He was still playing against other high school players, not college upperclassmen.
There will be plenty of mistakes.
I think people are getting a little carried away about some of these games, it sounds like this year has been weak even for the ptl with allot of the few d1 players there are to begin with not showing up.
If by mistakes you mean turnovers, then I agree. Like any other player, Fleming is not immune to mistakes. I just think that he will not have as many as you might as you might expect and that is what will keep him in the rotation.
I'm not basing my opinion on PTL alone, he has only played a couple games there anyway. I'm also not claiming to know more than anyone else here. I suppose my expectations could be a bit too optimistic. We shall see.
Players can make mistakes on both ends of the court. I think Fran has a lower tolerance level for defensive mistakes. PTL doesn't show much about how well Fleming can play on the defensive end. He looks good enough on the offensive end to be in the rotation, but if he is a defensive liability, his minutes will be limited.
