Got to catch up with Luka Garza. Such a great young guy. The incredible thing about him is he's still the same guy since when he arrived.
He said tonight is going to meet a lot to him because last year not having fans in the stands. He has so many good memories at Iowa of the fans being in the stands cheering on the team, but there were so many last year that he wished they were in the stands like the ISU game, the UNC game, the night he set the record and the announcement that he was having his jersey retired.
Said he knew Keegan (and Kris) were different when they arrived. He said Keegan would come in and score 8 of 11 points in pickup games and played with so much confidence. Said he watches Iowa play every game that he can. Can't say enough good things about Iowa and his time with the Hawkeyes and Fran taking a chance on him.
I asked Luka about his welcome to the NBA moment. He said it was early in the season against Philly and he has Joel Embiid guarding him and knocks down a three. (and he talks some trash to Joel). Embiid comes down and does his thing and then Luka hits another three. Pretty surreal moment for Luka.
