With Brent, it was just Tom, Brent and typically a guest (an Iowa coach, Mary Ferentz, a former player, as some examples) at a local bar.

Now, the podcast includes Tom, Pat Angerer, Matt Randazzo and typically a guest at the WQAD TV offices.

Do you prefer the podcast format when Balbinot was on or do you prefer the current format with Angerer and Randazzo?

After voting, post why you voted the way you did AND what could be done better to make the podcast better. Hopefully Tom is listening.

Regarding the current format:

* the Angerer f bombs need to stop; not sure how Tom and Matt get away with this; do the f bombs bother me? A little. But I bet they really bother a lot of people, and as a result, I bet people have started to not listen to the podcasts.

* there is too much talking over one another where it's hard to figure out what any one person is saying

I used to love the podcasts before with Brent, Tom, and occasional guest. They were packed with good information, lots of insight, and professionally done.
I feel completely opposite now about them. They are very unprofessional, appear to be screwing around half the time, talking about personal stuff a lot instead of actual Iowa sports, and yes I too can't believe the language they are allowed to use so much. I dislike them so much now, that I've stopped listening to them, and am instead find myself looking for other sources instead of rivals to find my fix for good hawkeye insights through podcasts. I am very disappointed that Tom has allowed these podcasts to turn into such a farce compared to what they used to be. Please find a different co host and go back to the old format of providing great information in a professional manner. Sorry for the rant, but I feel very strongly bout this.

Tom is awkward in this lineup. He is like the kid that doesn't belong in the group.... They just don't mesh well. It is like two podcasts on opposite spectrums, mixed together. It doesn't work well for me.

I completely agree with you. If I could get a social podcast with Tom, Matt, Pat and guest talking about life it would be interesting. If I could get Tom and a few other hawkeye media people to discuss Iowa sports that would be awesome. The two things together aren't working at all. Tom has to be the dad while the other two talk nothing intellectually about the Hawkeyes. I really do like Pat giving updates on Brett Greenwood though.

I'm with you. Every time Pat starts going off, it's like, "can he say that on the radio?"

It's 2 entirely different formats so it's hard to compare. For me it was a little shock and awe the first time or two I listened but it's grown on me. I could do without the excessive cussing but I have looked past it and caught myself laughing at times with some of the humor. I actually like Matt and think he asks good questions to bring the discussion back when it goes off the rails. What I want from Pat is more stories from his playing days (on and off the field) at Iowa and the NFL along with a little more analysis / insights of the game. He's capable of doing that but can poo-poo that. It does seem like Pat is getting more comfortable and is starting to do more of that lately though and I do very much like Pat too. I agree also that I want more basketball talk now. Some wrestling as well as other Iowa sports talk is fine too.

Regardless of the format of any of these podcasts when they bring in former players and current/former coaches or knowledgeable guests to talk about Iowa sports that's the best. Tom's podcast with Brent had more former players that I loved to listen to. They all did a great job.

I really, really have enjoyed the Huddlecast podcasts with Anton & Drew Tate this past season. Anton is great and Drew is a funny. They have brought in a ton of former players with great insights and awesome stories that bring out the fun side of Iowa football behind the curtain. They also do some cussing at times but it's not excessive. Sometimes it's hard to hear some of the back and forth but it's great overall.

I listened to the latest podcast and you did not miss much; Matt said several times that they were probably putting listeners to sleep, and there was a lot of truth right there

I will say this, the times when Tom is talking, and in particular about hoops and hoops recruiting is well worth listening to. Tom has good hoops knowledge and it goes way back. He is not wrong very often in that area. I would suggest a moderator to kind of facilitate and keep the talk on point and find a replacement for Angerer.

You make a really, really good point but one who passes judgement on another need only look in the mirror. Keep in mind you are posting this on a message board against another anonymously as we all are.

Read the passage of the woman who committed adultry in John 8:1-11. John 8:7 ... 'let any of you who is without sin be the first to cast a stone at her'....

Luke 6:41-42 is another good text about passing judgement.

You might want to think about talking with Pat about this personally if you are going to quote scripture on a message board. Otherwise you are getting your reward now as much as you are trying to help.

I listened a few times early this year and gave up on it mostly. Swearing is no big deal but it's not combined with any substance. It comes across as a bad attempt at a FM morning radio show. I look for Hawkeye podcast with some analysis/information along with some entertainment. Tom gives info sometimes but that's about all I get from this one. The Huddlecast one gives some entertainment so that is fun sometimes. Miller/Deace is all right. They are good at their work and come prepared . Not a fan of their politics but it's mostly kept out. OnIowa one is good for information. Those guys and the production tend to be on the bland side.

No I see that you are back-tracking now in your response and trying to change the discussion. I never once said it was ok and even said you made a really good point.

What I questioned is your role as a person casting the first stone since you choose a public forum in an anonymous fashion to call him out. That is hypocritical. If you cared enough about a brother from a faith perspective to quote scripture then I was just saying maybe you should reach out to him personally otherwise the purpose of your post is to simply draw attention to yourself as someone without sin. That's what both of those passages discuss.

They lost me when PA said he didn't even watch the game. Like he was way too cool to watch Iowa because he played pro ball. I'll be damned if I'll listen to a guy talk Iowa football that doesn't even watch it. F him.

Ive just recently discovered the world of podcasting (yes, Im old). So subscribed to both Hawkeye report and Hawkeye Nation. I use this site for 90% of my hawkeye content, but your podcast was unlistenable. Got thru maybe the first 20 mins of the only one Ive downloaded, waiting for some type of topic or anything of substance to be said and finally just shut it off. Like previous posters have said, its just not professionally done. Seems like 3 guys show up and try to figure out what to talk about.

Im not a Jon Miller lover by any stretch, like I said, I much prefer this site to Hawkeye Nation. But his podcasts are far superior. There is a topic, a well thought out agenda, and very limited discussion about personal lives and wise cracking. They talk 95% hawkeyes and/or sports. The 20 mins I listed to your podcast (which was right after the bowl announcement) Id spit ball it was 25/75 the other way.

the guests Tom and Brent had is what made it so great, imo

Its weird. If you google AllHawkeyes it gives a link to "Podcasts" The last one there is #194 from 11/28. If you go directly to their website, there is no Podcast section. It does however have a link to episode #205 from 12/26, but when you click it its just to another link to itunes. Im sure somebody somewhere can get it but I gave up. Too many clicks and im not going to itunes.

It's really weird I just checked it out and it's a brand new podcast, first episode is November 29th. Must have created a new podcast stream for some reason.

I don't mind the cussing at all, but I stopped listening because it's not interesting. Love Angerer, but he's not cut out as a regular guest on podcasts, radio, etc. The show is just too nonchalant, which is fine if it's funny, but it's not.

For me, it was way better with Brent and Tom. Brent was the ultimate professional who could keep things on track and Tom provided wonderful color/insight. It worked extremely well. Brent also knew how to interview people and that was 80% of the reason I tuned in. Now ... it has no structure, very little in the way of decent interviews, and is much too football centric. I survived on Brent and Tom in the summer months while mowing. I love Pat. He is a good person and would give you the clothes off his back if you needed help. He's really a down-to-earth person if you ever meet him; however, he is not good at the podcast thing. I quit listening sometime in November. Not because of Pat, but because I didn't get any value out of the format. I think Pat would be a great once-a-week guest for 10-15 minutes each during football season. He does provide insight into what goes on behind the scenes, but I can't listen for 90 minutes just to mine out the 5 minutes worth of value.

Might I suggest: I really like what Cory Lathrup does. Now that PSD departed his podcast, it seems like Cory and Tom would make a good pairing for a podcast with Cory playing the part of Brent. Might be difficult when they are on opposite sides of the state, though.

The podcast now starts with them quietly talking like they're in the middle of a conversation. I listen to podcasts in an app that plays them one right after another, and it takes me a few moments to figure out WTF I'm listening to, then I remember how unprofessional it is now, and I remember.

Randazzo is kind of a jerk, and more enamored with joking around and snapping towels at each other. Angerer dropping F bombs and doesn't even watch Hawkeye games. Tom is really the only true Hawkeye content.

I used to think Balbinot was kind of a huckleberry, but his absence has made me miss how good the podcast used to be.
