I thought it has been very good. ISU game was more of a case of Stanley being off that day...missed a lot of open throws he has been making since.

Minus a couple play calls in the Wisky game that cost us- QB sneak on 4th and basically 2? Toss sweep 3rd and goal from the 2 when we had been pounding up the middle and the best TE duo in the country. Those two are head scratchers that helped cost us the game; not the only reason we lost (turnovers).

I like the fact that we are putting the game more in Stanley's hands. He has proven to be a good QB so we have an edge there at that position so lets utilize it more. Think last year we were hesitant to let it rip in a couple of games so good to see the coaches giving him more freedom.

I don't think the toss sweep was a bad call, Whisky's LB just made an AMAZING play on it. If Ross stymies him, we probably score.

A. Good mix of run and pass. Passing game has been creative with a good mix of short, intermediate, and deep passes, and they’ve done a great job of spreading the ball around.

I’d consider dropping down to an A- for a few head-scratching individual plays as well as I’d like to see them involve the backs more in the passing game. Very few screens or swing passes this year that could prove effective with some very solid receiving backs.

Essentially, I feel the offense is doing everything they need to for Iowa to win games and have a great season

I give him a B- right now. Above average but still lots of room for improvement and KF alluded to that in his presser. Of course he always has talked about room for improvement and cleaning things up, although, now that I think about it, he doesn't say "clean things up" like he used to. Must be part of the 'New Kirk'.

Couldn't use the other thread asking the same damn thing?

There's a group of like 5-6 posters that make posts on anything they can think of, even if there is an identical one that was just dropped to page 2.

Beginning to think they're paid by Tom to drive up traffic.
link to this supposed identical thread where we are asked to grade Brian Ferentz' offense?

thanks, and have a great day of complaining about everything!

:)

I went B+. I like the improvement I see over last year. I do think he is able to shake some of his dad's conservatism more than KOK or GD could.

I went with a straight B at this point. The topic is asking to grade the Offense, not BF at this point, so I had to go B with that in mind. I think the struggles of the first 3 games with scoring drags the offense grade down. If you graded the last 3 weeks, I would give them an A-. The play calling has been better, the execution has been better, but the penalties and untimely turnovers have hurt the grade some. If I was still in school I would have taken a B any day, so I still think it is a good grade.

Before B10 play = C+
Since = B+ --TEs are being maximized, BSmith with more targets, Stanley given more reign.

What I'd like to see:
1. More passes to RBs - top priority IMO
2. More jet sweep action - ISM/Groeneweg
3. No QB sneaks

The assistants are harder to grade because fans don't see the day-to-daywork going on behind the scenes with all the personnel.
Polasek = B+- -- Pass protection has been very good/excellent, depth appears to be developing well. Get rid of the chop block?
Woods =A+ --TEs have been phenomenal.
Copeland = B+ --based mainly on coaching BSmith to substantial improvement, ISM has a way to go IMO, Cooper has a bit of a disappointment in limited action. Easley is a solid WR,
O'Keefe = A. Stanley still has room for improvement but he has been rock solid for the most part and his ckecks at scrimmage are much better.

Overall, the offense has progressed nicely and in the past couple weeks, much more explosive..... coaches deserve high grades.

B+

The passing game has been much better than expected this year. We rank 22nd nationally in yards per pass attempt.

The rushing game is still lacking. We rank 95th nationally in yards per rush.

In general, I think Brian has put players in good position to make plays, has reduced predictability, and has gotten good results with the tools he has to work with. However, as a program that still declares itself as having a run-first mentality, it's hard to give him an A when our running game has been mediocre at best.

Gave BF a B. Generally his calls have been very good. I do think though that he runs the stretch play far too much to the short side of the field. Also, his calls on the last offensive series against Wisconsin were problematic. With less than 6 minutes remaining we attempted two low-percentage pass plays after running for 5 yards on first down. With the lead we should have run the ball in that situation.

Isn’t Woods just the special teams coach and Brian Ferentz the TE coach?

When considering your grade, consider this:

Stat of the day. Iowa leads the country in passing yards on third down with 695.

In 2016, Iowa ranked 123rd (of 128 teams) with 432 yards on third down for the ENTIRE SEASON.
I give him a collective B over 6 games. Certainly an A over the last 2, a C for Wiscy, a B+ for UNI, a C for ISU and a C+ for NIU.

The important thing is he's trending higher, but big challenges remain ahead.

Gotta give credit where credit is due. Very impressed with how the O is progressing under Brian’s watch. Let’s hope it continues. Could be a special season.
