I wish woody would have committed more fouls on McKay. He's a bad free throw shooter. Why no Wagner all game? He might have made some mistakes (as if Woody didnt) but he at least has the athleticism to keep up.

I wondered that myself too.

Granted I don't see the players in practice, but you can clearly see he is an athlete and can rebound. His offensive game is limited, but if you have guys who can score alongside him it can work

I don't think McKay is a good matchup for Wagner at this stage in his career. Typically, Wagner can use his strength and athleticism to be effective, but that's sort of McKay's "thing" and his experience probably would have exposed Wagner a bit.

The person I'd have liked to see a bit more is Ellingson. Don't think he got enough minutes, and could have provided some offense when we went into a drought. Clemmons/Gesell is a good tandem at times, but we needed scoring, and neither of them are proficient scorers.

I was wondering the same thing in the second half. We were gassed and couldn't rebound at all. Would have given us 5-10 minutes and pulled some boards you would of thought.

I think watching game take of this game will be a good teaching tool for thus team. Everyone has things to learn from this, starters, reserves, and coaching staff. The Hawks did so many good things in this game and made so many bad decisions in the same game against the supposedly #2 team in the nation on their home court in an instate rivalry game.

McKay had 20 points -- all inside, of course -- 12 rebounds, and kicked out a number of other missed shots to others for rebounds.......and, according to the officials, was never fouled once. I'm not complaining; as you point out, sending him to the line would have been a bigger plus for Iowa than for ISU. But that's pretty amazing.

They weren't calling many fouls on anybody. Iowa didn't get its first defensive foul until less than 5 minutes remained in the first half. ISU had fouls to give in the final minute of the second half. Both teams seem to have adapted to the new rules emphasis.

I don't think putting a freshman in against a senior to make clutch plays is something you'd want to pin your hopes on

Yea because the seniors are bulletproof in the clutch. At some point it doesn't matter what year you are, you've either got athleticism or you don't. This isn't even a Woodbury sucks rant but McKay is just about the worst possible match up for him and he was exploited for a career night.
