Wahl

Wow, just watched that. Missed it initially. Garza even grabbed his face.

I think the problem was that it happened quickly after the CJ elbow to the face review and the refs didn’t want to stop the game to look at another one. Garza was rubbing his head on 3 or so straight trips down the floor trying to get their attention to do a review but they just ignored him.

Wahl's elbow to Luka's face at the 11:36 mark was definitely flagrant. It was not a basketball move. Wahl did not have the ball. He threw his elbow back purposely to clear Luka out while signaling for the ball. And, the arm to Luka's face by Reuvers was at the very least a foul that should have been called and would have negated the basket by Ford. I don't care how many times that the announcer said that Reuver's arm to the face was not intentional, it was still a foul. That, without reviewing the whole game for more, was 2 fouls to Luka's face with not even a foul called. That is atrocious! The officials let Wisconsin pound on Luka all night long. They were constantly holding their arms up and body bumping him from several directions but the refs call Kriener on a check in the lan?

So Wiscy was allowed to play rugby most of the night but I'm still confused on how Luka gets popped in the face, goes to the ground jumps up saying something and gets T.
Pritzl was who instigated the verbiage, Potter and Wahl were yapping all night.
Luka never touched anyone in the deal.
If your going to T up players for words.they better all be ubder the same rules.

I would agree. Refs call stuff based on what they say or hear. Folks who think the Iowa players are angels and never say things to the opponent or go up to the line are fooling themselves. It's part of why they are good, they aren't gonna just take crap from the opponent and they are going to let the opponent know about it if Iowa is winning.

That said, the complaints from Wisconsin about the foul disparity and FT's is comical. One team consistently drove the ball to the basket, and one didn't. Many games over the years at the Kohl Center where Wisconsin shot a lot more FT's than the opponent. Sometimes one team fouls more than the other team. Good on Iowa for putting Wisconsin in a position where they had to foul.

Wisconsin does similar stuff in football. One reason they have such a great running game is the clever way those big linemen are taught to hold on every play. Refs are so used to it that Wisconsin hardly ever gets a holding call against them. Why Iowa doesn't teach the same holding technique is beyond me.

Did I mention I don't care much for Wisconsin and that, like most Hawkeye fans, I'm really glad Iowa pulled that out last night. Now we need the football team to start a long series of Wisconsin whippings next fall. This Wisconsin stuff has got to stop, which made last night so great.

Wisky does always seem to have a few players, who stretch the rules for being physical. Sad thing for them is that their most talented players this year (Reuvers and Trice) aren't physical players by nature, so they aren't as good as past teams have been. Hawks were lucky to come away with a win as poorly as we shot.

The results of officials who aren’t in control of the game and/or miss several head shots that should have been easy flagrant calls.

Most anyone besides Garza and it would have went beyond verbal. Garza was very apologetic in the post game saying he briefly lost his cool. He never once mentioned taking two direct shots to the face. Dolph just said it was a very physical game.

I think Juwan Howard bemoaned this too!
