Was picking up a few things at Wally World and grabbed a 12 pack of Busch Light. I was with a fella who is of legal age but didn't have his wallet along.

Even though I am purchasing everything and can more than double up on 21 the cashier asks the fella with me for his ID. When he can't produce one she denies selling me the alcohol. She explains that in an alcohol sale she must ID everyone in the party who is under 40.

I've read abut this happening somewhere to a woman who had 2 teenage daughters along with her but this is the first time I've had it happen (or happen to anyone I know).

How did I respond? Walked out of the place and made them put it all back.

Anyone else ever have this happen?

I've heard of it before. It is their right as it is your right to leave. You did the right thing.

Happened to the wife and I at Target? In their defense we were both 21/22 and j didn't have my wallet. Have never had it happen anywhere since.

They're going to lose a lot of EBT $$ if poors can't by booze with their six kids in tow.

It has been this way for a decade, and poors still haven't flocked anywhere else. Thankfully poors are attracted to bright fluorescent light the same way moths are.

They can be held liable for selling to a group with someone who is underage if that person gets drunk and causes an accident. You can bet an injured party is going to pursue that route.

I assume its legally their right, but I don't think it should be. If I have a legal right to buy a product, it should not be a right to refuse to sell that product because of the company I associate with.

I'm guessing they just make the 6 kids wait unattended in the car with the closest thing to candy that EBT will allow them to buy while they go back in for their booze.

I worked Wal-Mart when I was in college to pay student loans down. They do NOT have the legal right to refuse a sale if you can prove your of age.

I have had to tell at punk cashier who tried to pull this on the lady in front of me with her young daughter. He sold to her after he called his manager over.

I had a similar experience this summer at Sam's Club. We were buying booze for a bachelor party and the groom's kid brother was with me. They asked for his ID and being he's 19 they told me I couldn't buy. In our case they were completely right in not selling to me.

I figured it had to be an overzealous ambulance chaser went for the deepest pocket at some time and made Walmart either pay a settlement or shell out legal fees defending themselves from a frivolous lawsuit.

But clearly we can't ask poors to get IDs. I mean, look at the voter ID threads!

If this happened to me, i probably would have a cart full of groceries that they would have to put away...
but I don't shop at Wal Mart too much. I can count on one hand how many times I have stepped foot in that place this year.

Unless they are discriminating against a protected class I'd say let them run their business however they want.

Why not have the person without the ID hit up the restroom while going thru checkout? Damn you guys make it too hard.

Everyone is a protected class. Age is a protected class. You can't discriminate against a person for having a kid. There is a right to assemble. This is the civil rights cause of our day, right after securing the right for prisoners to jerk off in peace.

I bought a trailer hitch from Walmart last week. Probably the first time I'd been in one of their stores in easily a year's time. I cannot believe how depressing that place is. The clerks were all foreign, barely able to speak English, and culturally very dissimilar from me (and I fit in well here).

The contrast to a place like HyVee or Target was just shocking. I don't have any desire to go to Walmart again.

The problem for me is, I often have a lot of errands to run on the weekend and precious few hours to complete all the crap I need to get done. So, if I need a few grocery items, some light bulbs, a can of spray paint, fertilizer and a toy and card for my niece's birthday, I can drive all over the freaking place or just get it all at WalMart.

Only poors shop at Walmart. I can't believe we have this thread on HROT. Where is this country going? Where is this board headed?

I have to admit I'm guilty of shopping there. Over the past few months my net worth has been hovering right at the 1 million mark. When I see it dip below, I go into cost saving mode. It's a head game.

If you think having a net worth of $1 million is so rare that you choose to use that as your joke, I am fine with you being a simpleton for the rest of your life. SP voice turned off now.

I use Walmart as an oversized, cheap convenient store. We buy our groceries from a store that closes at 9:00 PM and is not open on Sundays. The hardware store I frequent has even fewer hours.

Often when traveling if I need something how do I know where all the local stores are to get what I need and when they will be open?

Often when I'm at Walmart it's mostly because of convenience (which was the case this weekend).

A person who drinks Busch light and shops at Walmart?

The recession apparently hit HROT hard. Bunch of poors hanging around.

I've had this happen. I had my ID, wife left her purse in the car. We left everything for them to put back. Solved the problem by never shopping at Walmart again.

You would have been really pissed if your car got burged. Don't leave purses in the car, man.

all of the time that you save by these items all being located at walmart is lost again while you wait in line to check out.

i cant remember the the last time i went to walmart, its probably been fewer than 5 times this year. i would be able to overlook most of the things that are negatives about walmart but the one thing i can not forgive is the ridiculously long checkout lines and how long it takes to checkout.

I have avoided the cesspool that is Wal-Mart the last few years but I have had it happen at HyVee and Target. It's the stupidest thing ever and somebody has to be having a real shit day or be a complete douche to even ask.

I don't get this, and I usually get you.

Not at my Walmart. Lots of self-checkout lanes with no waiting. If you choose to get in line with a minimum wage cashier who can't find the bar code on anything, that's on you.
