Walmart won’t be open on thanksgiving

Good . . . Thanksgiving deserves to be it's own holiday and not be the pre-qual to Christmas.

I'm wondering how black friday is going to go with COVID going around.

If the massive crowds are showing up again we'll probably be on lockdown again by January.

I ate Thanksgiving dinner at Walmart one year.

We had ours at a hospital when our daughter was born. Wife and daughter were released on Thanksgiving but it wasn't until late.

If I remember right her birthday in Nov of 2021 will fall on thanksgiving.

I'm impressed how Walmart and other stores have really stepped up during this pandemic and seem to care about their employees and customers.

This has nothing to do with ensuring families are home for the holidays. It's because Black Friday would be a complete mess this year. It just gives them the ability to pretend they care about their employees' families.

Probably more COVID Commerce themed this year. Will Santa be in a facemask?

I know a guy who is a full blown "santa". He does company parties and commercials. At this point he's only doing things remotely rather than in-person. He has a video studio he plans to utilize. Most of these guys playing santa are older people and not wanting to be around the crowds. Looks like there's an opportunity for a 20 something santa.

They are following their own economic interests. Not the chaotic, dysfunctional ramblings of the president.

Please say it's not so! Where will all of the procrastinators go for grocery shopping? You know, the ones who don't realize Thanksgiving will be that Thursday?!?

I find the ordeal funny

On one side you have the people saying it's wrong to make people work on Thanksgiving, when many of employees volunteer to work because of the holiday pay incentive

Then on the side they bash those that shop on thanksgiving saying that time is reserved for family, while many have made traditions of going shopping with their loved ones and spending time together

I honestly don't care, my preference would be that stores are not open so as to not lure employees to work on a holiday but at the end of the day it doesn't affect me one way or another

Are you sure wal-mart employee's get holiday pay?

If they are getting time and a half than I don't have much problem with it. But my understanding was they made them work for their regular rates and they drafted people into it and don't get volunteers.

I know as a teenager working in McDonald's I worked several Holidays and we didn't get Holiday pay. The only thing they did was give us free lunch as opposed to a 50% off lunch.
