Was Anyone Else Not Nervous on Clark’s FTs?

Was texting with a former colleague who’s a Purdue grad late in the 4th when we were up by about 3. I said I’m glad that it’s a close game and that we have Caitlin Clark.
That is what I said when it was 71-69.

Crazy thing is that she really didn’t play all that well by her standards. Missed a couple of layups an several threes that she usually knocks down. Also made some ill-advised passes that resulted in turnovers, probably more than usual.

The ESPN crew was in awe of her performance but Hawk fans be like, “Meh, kind of a ho-hum game for Caitlin.” She’s phenomenal.

I was sitting on my couch, coaching that if she missed the second FT, that we need to foul! And she ruined it twice

I was shocked she almost drew iron on one of them. Where did you dig up this girl? My god, she has to be the best player I’ve ever seen.

From the suburbs of Des Moines. Iowa is actually churning out really good players, and coaches in both the men's and women's game right now. The #1 recruit in 9th grade is from Iowa. Two All- Americans (Clark-1st, Joens-3rd) are both from Iowa.

5* from Waukee picked ISU 🤮 for guys.

For a state with only 3.3 mil and two major college programs, we are hanging in there. I'm always jealous of Wisconsin, Nebraska, Minnesota, Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee (Memphis?), Ohio St. (Cincy), Maryland, Rutgers. Yes, you have to compete with some big schools for hoops in your state but for football, you should get all the home grown talent you want.

Regarding those 4 free throws, from ESPN.com:

Teammate Kate Martin said sometimes she has to remind herself she's playing alongside someone who could very well be in the early stages of one of the great careers in women's basketball history.

When Clark went to the foul line twice in the last 14 seconds for high-pressure free throws to seal the victory, Martin wasn't nervous.

"I would take her at the line all day over anybody in the world," Martin said. "I'm proud of her. She deserves all the recognition. I see it all the time. I know I'll appreciate it even more when one day when I'm older and I'm looking back and thinking, 'Wow, that was my teammate.'"

This. I mean what other teams have their star player interviewed going into half? She just shrugs it all off. Pretty remarkable.
I 3was a bit miffed about that- Sh-ould have been with her teammates in the lockerroom, //talking to the coaches and resting a bit.

You're dam right I was nervous! I was pretty much a basket-case the entire game.

I watched Fred Brown (82%) miss a late FT against Jacksonville. I will always be nervous in that moment!
