Was the committee just lucky?

In a year where more top teams were beaten than ever, we're left with 1 vs. 2 matchups in both games last night, which were all 1 vs. 4/5 and 2 vs. 3 matchups, as they "should" be.

For the record, I do believe they were mostly lucky, but for the chalk to line up that well is pretty amazing, particularly this season. Tonight will feature two 1 vs. 4/5 games, but the bottom of the brackets are already blown up.

I find it interesting.

OU chair got his wish. HE has two Texas Ten teams in the Elite 8, with a possible 3rd.

I really wish they would have a neutral committee and allow some of the smaller schools a spot at the table. Who was the chair back in the early 2000's when the MVC got 3-4 teams in? I just remember everyone was upset that they got 4, but they had 2 teams in the sweet 16 that year I think. They were pretty good and I think bradley knocked out Kansas in one of the bigger upsets of the tournament.

No they were not lucky. They know what they are doing and put in hundreds of hours trying to do well.
Meh, there's always over-seeded and under-seeded teams. Syracuse didn't deserve the chance to play in the tournament let alone beat up on Dayton and Middle Tennessee State to get to the Sweet 16 as a 10-seed..........

The committee also is lucky, if we're just talking chalk lines, by having UNI blow up and lose to Texas A&M so Jay Bilas can conveniently tell us how parity is not real. All that matters is wins and losses to some. Never mind the historical events it took to obtain a desired outcome.........

I kinda figured this would happen. All these shocking upsets and yet at the end of the day, the blue bloods and the higher seeds find a way. Villanova did surprise a bit as a 2-seed with how well they've played. Most expected Oregon and Oklahoma to meet. However, the real potentially intriguing mix-ups take place tonight when Iowa State-Virginia and UNC-Indiana clash. That's two 4-seeds with a very real possibility of advancing, and over the top 2 teams from the highly touted ACC to boot.

But an all 1-seed Final Four would actually be kind of anti-climatic after the way this season has gone, unless all 3 games from the Final Four on turned out to be classics, or at least down to the wire..................unlike yesterday's blow outs.

I wouldn't consider placing the best two teams in the whole tournament in the same region (south) lucky.

I agree this tournament has been anti-climatic and yes the committee got lucky.

The West was probably the weakest region in the last decade and amazingly the Chair's school was in that bracket. It's amazing how all the overseeded teams (Oregon, Duke, Texas A&M) ended up in that bracket. Based upon resumes, Kentucky and Michigan St. should have been 3 and 1 seeds in that bracket respectively. Then, the regions would have been balanced and some of the games yesterday may have been better.

Lucky? Well, VCU was four points from the round of 16. Stephen F. Austin was a miracle tip-in from the Sweet 16. And then there's that team from UNI that had a 12 point lead with 30 seconds to play yet was denied the Sweet Sixteen in double OT. So three double-digits seeds could just as well have been in the round of 16 as not. Call it what you will.

Possibly Michigan State at a #1 seed could then possibly had the distinction of being the first #1 seed to be beaten by a 16 seed. There probably isn't that much difference between a 16 and a 15 seed.

I actually bet the greatest discrepancy between two adjacent seed lines is between 15s and 16s.

No. They are professionals. Average joes like us think we know more, but the majority of the time they are correct.
Cal, Az, tx, T Tech, Baylor etc. They weren't 1s and 2s, but there were plenty of teams that were WAY overhyped imo. But then again I'm no basketball expert, not even self proclaimed :).
