These Hawkeye Classics are amazing to watch. Yeah, it's B&W 4:3 and edited for time, but it's still a kick to see football of that era, and watch all these former Iowa players we've all heard about.

So far, they've shown the first half. Very exciting, although ridiculously sloppy. I counted I believe 8 turnovers. Randy Duncan had I believe 4 INT's the first half. Both teams moving the ball, but mostly turning the ball over. Players also aren't afraid after getting a turnover to lateral the ball to another player on the return.

Only seen a couple punts. Lots of going for it on 4th down.

It appears the punters and kickers were also position players for both teams.

But what really strikes me is how similar the game play was to game play today. Sure, you have split backs and a lot more rushing - no shotgun, etc...but you also have single and twin tight ends, lots of bootleg rollouts, long passes to stretch the defenders.

The players were slower and smaller, but the concepts look remarkably similar.

If you get this channel locally, I highly recommend watching these every Saturday at 9am on KCRG 9.2.

Many of the ND guys just left on some crusade, their words, so their numbers are a little thin.

Randy Duncan looks really good for his age.
