Police say music teacher had sexual relationship with a minor
A music teacher from Webster Middle School in Waukegan is being held in lieu of $1 million bond after being charged Friday with three counts of criminal sexual assault.

Briana Travis, 33, of the 100 block of Walnut Court in Mundelein, is accused of having a sexual relationship with a minor dating to last summer.

She was taken into custody for questioning Thursday after becoming the focus of a joint investigation launched the same day by the Waukegan Police Department and the Lake County state's attorney's office, according to a statement released by the two agencies late Friday afternoon.

"The investigation began when a concerned parent contacted the police department about inappropriate texting between a student and the music teacher," the statement said. "Detectives from the Waukegan Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division interviewed the music teacher."

According to authorities, Travis "began to reveal details about a separate inappropriate relationship with a different minor," leading to the charges filed against her.

"Travis and the minor victim allegedly began the inappropriate relationship at the end of the 2014-15 school year," officials stated. "Travis and the minor victim continued the inappropriate relationship through the summer of 2015, until Travis' arrest on October 15."

Police added that the texting incident remains under investigation. Authorities declined to provide information on the victim's age in the criminal assault allegations, stating only that a minor was involved.

Waukegan Public School District 60 officials said in a statement that Travis was arrested "in relation to an alleged illegal and prohibited relationship with a student at the school" and has been placed on administrative leave while the matter works through the legal system.

"The details of these allegations are abhorrent," District 60 Superintendent Dr. Donaldo Batiste said. "Any behaviors that compromise the safety and well-being of our students, and/or the trust of our community, will not and can not be tolerated."

Anyone know the breakdown from Female vs Male teacher sexual assaults? It seems like once a week there is a female charged with sexual assault against a minor, maybe they are just getting more publicity.

Interesting that a guy's side of the story would start with "this one time at band camp..."

I played my trombone for her, parum pum pum pum.
