WBB recruiting for the future

If the commit is Afforlter, would love to finish the class off with Sophie Hart and one of Kampshroeder or Grace Hall.

So, for next years class. Who can help me out?
And then for 2021?

where do you look for best rankings? Star power? Etc?

This brings up an interesting point: does Iowa plan to get 3 players in the 2021 class or 4? As of now, only 3 players will depart after next year. That leaves Iowa with 11 scholarship players. Iowa can technically go up to 15. Best I can tell, Bluder has tended to keep the roster around 13 under theory that you can't keep 15 players happy with playing time. Will she change course?

Transfers could impact things, but Iowa hasn't dealt with transfers in the past couple seasons, so we can't really assume they will happen.

My understanding is 4 as we are currently 1 scholarship player under max.

Usually transfers or injuries has caused us to be low the last 4 years.

Not a bad weekend and more to come for fans. 13,480 women's basketball, 13,800 wrestling and probably another 13,000 for the men's basketball game Monday. FIRE Barta????:D:D
That's one hell a lot of ice cream cones:confused::cool: $$$$
I stood in line from 6:00 left in the second quarter to 5:00 left at half for a cone. How hard would it be to add another set of cone concessions?

Ediger is ranked #47 in the 2021 class by Prospects Nation and Hart is 39, Kampschroeder 26, and Hall 42. The fact that it wouldn't be a surprise for one or more of these women to be future Hawks shows how the past couple seasons have impacted recruiting for the better.

There's no surprise about Ediger because she's always a Hawkeye;)

Each member of the group (Ediger, Hart, Affolter, Kampschroeder, and Hall) has a good offer list, though Ediger's list might have improved had she not been an early commit to Iowa. But the last two have more offers from teams that prize athleticism. Will be interesting to see how it turns out.

It’s possible that attrition could be more than the three graduating seniors. Carly Moens was the last to leave with eligibility and she did grad-transfer. Alexis could do the same. You really never know about transfers, but I suspect that Iowa would go up to the limit for the right players.

Kampschroeder’s final three choices are Stanford, Oregon State, and Iowa, so she is a good possibility (one in three). Hart and Hall are less likely in my opinion. I would guess that chances for at least one of them is 50/50 at best and for two of the three are very low. There is a number of other very good possible 2021 players that might be considering Iowa.

It's certainly possible that Alexis will transfer, but I think it unlikely. She should get plenty of playing time next year, and playing time is usually the leading factor in transfers.

Zion or Paula transferring seems more likely. I assume both could grad-transfer, and neither is likely to play much next year. It's also possible that they would prefer to finish up their careers at Iowa.

Logan or Megan Meyer could also transfer. This off-season will be crucial for them. If they don't work their way into the rotation to start next year, I'm not sure they ever will.

It’s certainly possible...
I certainly hope (and believe) you are right about Alexis. There is probably no way she could (or would) be replaced on the roster, and they almost certainly would not be better without her. Zion and Paula are both Juniors and would need to graduate early to grad-transfer. Of course they wouldn’t need to in order to transfer out but I think that is unlikely too. Logan is a home town Iowa City native and Megan is a lifetime Hawkeye fan, so I could imagine them staying even as non-starters.

I think it is at least a 50/50 probability that the commitment tomorrow is Sydney Affolter. She was the only recruit seen sitting near the bench, so that may not be just a coincidence. Iowa can take only two more and there is a possibility they may not even get that.

Ramos will not leave. She said:
I am part of Dr. Weiner’s lab in the Neuroscience. Our work focuses on gamma-protocadherins, which are cell adhesion molecules that play a role in neural circuit formation during brain development. Specifically, we look at how the actions of gamma-protocadherins help the developing neurons grow, branch out in the brain tissue, and form connections with the branches of other neurons that they encounter. This branching and synapse formation determine brain circuitry and connectivity.

I find it fascinating to study the molecular mechanisms by which the brain comes to be such a complex system, and to understand the specific impact of certain gamma-protocadherins in this bigger process.

Losing Alexis would not hurt this team in my opinion. I would argue that Marshall, Jensen, and possibly even Taiwo and Meyer are all more skilled and more athletic. Alexis has experience, but doesn’t do anything spectacular that couldn’t be replaced or even upgraded..

That's a good find. I should have added to my previous statement that I don't think it's particularly likely that any player will transfer. Paula has to have known since Sophomore year (if not earlier) that she wouldn't play much. She's stayed the last two years anyway. Same for Zion.

And as Cyberhawk has mentioned, Logan and Megan both have compelling reasons to stay due to their connections to the University.

Alexis had as much with the MSU win as anyone by shutting down McCutcheon with 1 pt in the second half after she torched us with 11 in the first half. We need D and her shooting.

To add onto this, experience is hard to quantify, but does add value to a team. Next year's team is going to be very young. Without Alexis, there wouldn't be a player on that team that saw major minutes in our Elite 8 run just last year (Monika played every game but didn't play a lot in any of them).

Alexis has also done well in late game situations. Her shots against Maryland and Minnesota are obvious, but she also stepped in for a struggling Marshall late against Princeton and made a couple big defensive plays that helped us win the game.

Lisa was upfront with Paula when she was a recruit that she would not see much playing time if any.

I think you’re both right and wrong. Alexis surely has some athletic shortcomings, as she no doubt knows, and takes no one off the bounce. But she plays her role quite well in the zone, as the stats bear out, and she has made multiple big late-game shots, both this year and last. Marshall and the in-coming guards are likely more athletic, but until they all show that they can make the late game big shot, it would be a big loss to lose Alexis. Winning shot makers are hard to find.

Sydney Affolter, a wing from Chicago, commits to Iowa women's basketball

5-foot-11 junior was hooked when she visited Sunday for Hawkeyes' win over Michigan State

Affolter is a 5-foot-11 wing. She averages 15 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game for a Marist squad that is 21-3 and ranked No. 5 in Illinois’ Class 4A. She picked the Hawkeyes among a host of Big Ten rivals, as well as Arizona Stateand others.

“I think I can do a lot of things,” she said. “I can shoot the 3, I can drive. I’ll play post if they want me to, and I can play the point.”

Affolter’s father, Ed, is an assistant coach at Marist.

Affolter gives Marist solid foundation

by Tim O’Brien Nov 26, 2019

In junior forward Sydney Affolter, the Marist girls basketball team has a star to build around.

Iowa women's basketball:
Hawkeyes add second 2021 commit in Chicago's Sydney Affolter

Affolter received an Iowa offer last summer and visited Iowa City in October before returning this past weekend. The coveted 2021 prospect chose the Hawkeyes over offers from DePaul, Illinois, Wisconsin, Kansas State, Northwestern, Minnesota, Xavier, Marquette, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Michigan State, Texas Tech, Washington State, Arizona State and others. Many of those opportunities came via strong play on the AAU circuit, where Affolter runs with All-Iowa Attack alongside many of the state's best.

After signing a hyped 2020 group, Iowa adds Affolter to its 2021 class alongside A.J. Ediger. Ediger, a 6-foot-2 forward from Michigan, committed to Lisa Bluder in June.

Affolter, appears to be almost a Mackenzie Meyer clone. Both highly recruited in the 50 to 100 range, both in the 5'9 to to 5'10 range. 3 point specialists, Affolter will be competing in Illinois in the 3 point contest. Both are ultra competitive and willing to attack the boards. Very solid commit.

Team USA tryout huge success for Affolter heading into junior year
by Tim O’Brien Jun 25, 2019

Affolter (Mt. Greenwood, St. Christina) was one of over 150 athletes competing May 23-27 at the team trials hosted at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Marist junior-to-be advanced through two cuts but did not make the final round.

They both are listed at 5'9", but Affolter looks a little bigger, stronger, heavier to me.

I would agree looks a little more stout, but their games still match up very well.

I really like her size and while I don't want some big over weight person, I like that she's athletic and looks to be strong, which will be a help to her playing in the B1G. (same with McKenna Warnock)

If any of you live in the Iowa City area, Caitlin Clark and Dowling visit City High at 1pm on Saturday. Gonna be quite a challenge for City.....they play at IC West the night before.

Second this wish list. Affolter is a really good get, and Hart would give Iowa another great post prospect for Jan. But (especially)Kampschroeder or Hall would be a second potentially program-elevating recruit (in addition to Clark).

This year as a whole is really pushing forward the recruiting. Having back to back really good years will do that, getting a #4 recruit also obviously helps momentum. Hall looks like a forward/center prospect we haven't had. Extremely athletic for her size, good ball handler and a decent stroke and willing to play defense. Kampshroeder has more name recognition, but my guess would be Hall may be the staffs preference between the two, although I am honestly not sure.
