WBB recruiting for the future

I really like her size and while I don't want some big over weight person, I like that she's athletic and looks to be strong, which will be a help to her playing in the B1G. (same with McKenna Warnock)
I've seen Affolter play a couple times and she reminded me of a shorter, more athletic Warnock offensively. She did not shoot it well in either of the games I saw but supposedly has that ability. She was really active and did a lot of the other things well. It seems like she would fit in nicely at the 3 for Iowa but could potentially play several different positions.

Affolter, appears to be almost a Mackenzie Meyer clone. Both highly recruited in the 50 to 100 range, both in the 5'9 to to 5'10 range. 3 point specialists, Affolter will be competing in Illinois in the 3 point contest. Both are ultra competitive and willing to attack the boards. Very solid commit.
I have not seen anywhere that she was 5’9”. She was at 5’10” as a sophomore and 5’11” last May when she was trying out for the USA U16 team. She does also appear to be playing at 5’11” this [her junior] season but I recall seeing her somewhere being referred to as 6’0”. Regardless, judging from her photos, I would compare her physically and athletically to Ally Disterhoft, if maybe just a bit shorter. However, judging from the highlight clips, I think her 3-point shooting range is greater but defensively, very similar.

Her 3-point shooting is definitely Jaime Printy-like, both the range and no hesitation. I remember Disterhoft had always been pretty hesitant to shoot the 3s.

By the way in the video at around 25s mark when she shot the step-back three, was that not a travel?

I'd say it's the same thing as a jump stop, just in the opposite direction. I also use the jump stop analogy for why a Euro-step is legal.

It would definitely be fine if both her feet had landed at the same time. It's the separate landing of the two feet that made it look odd. Maybe that is the Euro-step you were talking about.

Her and her shot remind me of a much taller version of Melissa Dixon from 2015 and before . She was a great 3 point shooter and that is what I see from Affolter. They are both athletically built and not blazing fast. Affolter is just 6" taller.

Liberty, it’s a very real possibility the hawks will have 4 commits in the top 50 (depending on the publication), but very good recruits. We need one more year of consistency next year on the court an the Hawkeyes could become a contender.

Here's a video explanation of why the Euro-step is legal in the NBA. Not sure the NBA and college rule books match exactly on the explanation, but I don't remember seeing a Euro-step called a travel much in college. Affolter's step back is a similar concept--two steps after the gather not necessarily at the same time.

NEWS: Rumor was Warnock is miserable at Iowa, might transfer, however big game other night might change her mind.
Kampschroeder won't go to Iowa. Meyer might leave, and highly unlikely that Cook would as she likes be called a "hawkeye", like her brother Drew. I'am ussually right but as you know kids decisions can change overnight.

Don't know about Warnock but I guess the others are possible.

I can tell you for a fact that Warnock has NOT been unhappy, isn't currently unhappy or has even hinted at a transfer. The poster is full of tenderloins!!

Hey Brian! Are you allowed to watch your daughter's games at City High this year? I know you were banned last year. You still banned from even being on the grounds of your youngest's elementary school too or has that been lifted?

I will be going to the City High vs. Dowling Saturday. Wanna sit together? I was told that there were only 8 people at the last City High game, and they were ranked #1 in the state. Wear red.

There is a great game tomorrow at Iowa City High tomorrow (Saturday ) at 1pm. Iowa City High meets Dowling in a girls basketball game a game that features four division I commits:
Iowa City High Division I recruits
Paige Rocca, Missouri State University.
Aubrey Joens, Iowa State
Rose Nkumu, Marquette

Dowling Division I Recruits
Caitlin Clark, Iowa

It’s going to be chance to see a glimpse of the future.

I just got home from the Iowa City High-Dowling game. I didn't ask for my money back. City wins 75-73 when Clark's halfcourt shot misses. Clark had 24 points in the first half, 8 in the third quarter, and 2 in the last quarter. Aubrey Joens had 23-ish points. One person couldn't beat a team.

Remember that this is a 32-minute game, so add 1-17 points to each team to equal a college game.

I was very impressed with both Joens girls (Iowa State and ?) and Rose Nkumu (Marquette).

Clark has an incredible touch. It will be interesting to see how she fares when surrounding by Division I talent. Her passing reminding of the problem that Pete Maravich when teammates couldn't handle his passes.

Tom Ward has already posted a few photos and I am sure there will more soon.

I was at the game too and wow! I knew that Clark was good, but her shot is so pure. From a good 5 feet behind the 3pt line, the ball never touched the rim on more than half of her shots. And these were not stand still, spot up 3pt shots, they were shots off the dribble and contested.
The only negative was she did have a few passes get deflected, similar to how Doyle gets her passes deflected from time-to-time when she tries to make difficult passes. Clark could very well rewrite the record book at Iowa (other than rebound record :) )

The both Joens girls need to add some strength (the youngest is only a 9th grader) as they scored off drives that will not happen at the next level.
Rose N. reminds me a lot of KK Armstrong a few years back from CR Wash and UNI. A little undersized, but very quick and powerful.

Clark and the two joens girls did stand out. Thought city high looked like the better team. Say what you want but looks like all 4 of his girls will get s free college degree

Couldn't care less....still a piece of garbage. Makes Marv Marinovich look sane.
