WBB Transfer Portal Targets 2025-2026 (Updated 4/28/25)

Schools will need to tread lightly when it comes to compensating international students, even if they are paid for services in their home country. There seems to be a hair trigger when it comes to revoking student visas. Without getting too political, I’d rather be student in Iowa than California right now. I think there is less of a spotlight on the red states.

Ya I looked at her tape. She's definitely talented. Espn rated her as a 5* international prospect.

I hate to bring up guyton and I wish her the best. But Elina looks like she's further along in development.

Is she ready to take the reigns and be a 30mpg starter will remain to be seen. All I know I'd be really happy if we got her.

It sounds like next year's pg mix if we got her would be her, Deal, and stremlow.

Yes, please please please! Then let’s get a darn good forward for one year

Lewis is a nice player, but not the end of the world if she doesn't come to Iowa. She must play better in AAU tourneys than she does in high school games. Don't get me wrong, she's skilled, but you'd think a top 20 recruit would be unstoppable vs Iowa high school competition.
Who stopped her??

Has Iowa talked to or approached any players at the forward position? At this point, I don't think they have, but it's not always available information. Maybe nothing looks like a fit, but starting to appear (with the window closing 4/23) they aren't looking to add to the front court.

A little surprising given the depth, but maybe they have a lot of faith in Mallegni's continued development. Would love to see her with a big jump over the summer, so I hope she goes after it.

Two thoughts- 1) transfer players want playing time. Leaving money aside, I think most transfer portal players would look at Iowa’s center and 4 position players and think playing time prospects are limited 2) I hope Elina A. being from a country like Finland, would see the slower pace of the Midwest, the college town environment of Iowa City and the Carver fan support she played against this past season as compelling reasons to come aboard the Hawkeye program! I would love to see wearing black and gold ( yellow, actually)

Kinda hard with raina the top overall recruiter departing. I'm sure their making moves. We just haven't heard

Aarnisalo has upcoming visit to North Carolina on her calendar. Hopefully it's just penciled in.

Surprised Guyton didn't go to Indiana, but I'm not familiar with their exact situation. If true about Illinois, I hope she does great-- except for when they play Iowa.

Is it assumed Aarnisalo has more ppg in her, given minutes and a good situation? Haven't really investigated beyond a few highlights. Just know Iowa needs a consistent scorer to join the team, so I'm hoping that is possible. Looks like she's further along than Guyton, so that's a plus! Hope the visit goes well.

I hope the visit convinces her to stay.

I feel like if a player visits and then visits somewhere else, we don’t get them. Unfortunately
FWIW: scoured the internet looking for North Carolina WBB forums after seeing this post earlier today:

Really only found one site with WBB posts at their 247 outlet: https://247sports.com/college/north-carolina/board/womens-basketball-104773/

"Spring Transfer Portal" thread has no mention of Aarnisalo. "UNC Transfer Interest" thread is where I found the above-referenced post.
Comment by poster was a whopping 4 words long: "Yet another transfer target". Could you get any more Ho-Hum than that? Only one follow-up reply mentions Elina. Compare that to probably several hundred comments on the three Iowa websites.

North Carolina WBB home page lists average attendance for the 24-25 season at 3290; Carmichael Arena where they play seats less than 7000...essentially the same size as Drake's Knapp Center. We all know how many people come to Carver for WBB.

I hope they have a way of letting Miss Aarnisalo know this; of course she's already seen Carver in person.

She was 8th on the team in field goal attempts per game, so I think so. This year, Iowa's top 4 scoring guards were: Olson: 18 ppg, Feuerbach 7 ppg, McCabe 7 ppg, Guyton 5 ppg. That's 37 ppg total.

Next year (assuming Aarnisalo joins) I could see something like: Deal: 12 ppg, Aarnisalo: 10 ppg, Feuerbach 8 ppg, McCabe: 7ppg. Same ppg, just a more even distribution.

Would Aarnisalo also be the presumptive pg starter at North Carolina, replacing Donarski?
