We need completely independent call reviews.

My son had a good idea. He said there should be a ref who is not even watching the meet on call somewhere with a computer ready if needed. They could show him the action, zoom in without maybe him even knowing how the ref ultimately called it. And what he says goes. If the technology happens to fail in that moment, then resort back to the refs reviewing their own call.

I know it would be hard for even these remote refs to change it, lest they find out their buddy overruled them. Perhaps only the head of refs should know who is actually doing it.

I would also say there also needs to be a time limit put on how long a review can be. I like the idea of video review, but it takes away the conditioning aspect of wrestling. Drives me crazy.

I'm okay with this, but probably a budget issue with having another official on-call. I'm okay with doing away with replay because it interferes with the flow, and takes away from a wrestler with superior conditioning. Outlasting your opponent in the 3rd period is a big part of the sport, I don't like that one guy can get a breather.

Hard to argue with that. That said, if there's a rule, especially if it's a new rule, somebody somewhere is plotting to expose the loopholes the new rule just created. Death, Taxes, etc.

Too be fair both guys get the breather.

1) I've been calling for a third ref to handle video reviews ever since they instituted the video review. This remote video ref idea is actually pretty creative, and it would obviously provide a big cost savings relative to having a third ref on site everywhere. Would seem to work quite well for tournaments, especially, where you could have a video room with feeds from all mats. I'd say it's worth a try. No matter how much integrity a ref has, he has a clear conflict of interest when reviewing his own call, especially if there's a hostile crowd booing him while he does so. People don't like to admit they were wrong. It's probably rarely a conscious thing for the refs, but at some level, that tendency is bound to affect their perception of the video on review.

2) As for both guys getting a breather, this is obviously true, but the point is that the better-conditioned guy doesn't need it, whereas the guy with no gas tank does. In this sense, the guy without the gas tank clearly benefits more than the conditioned guy.

Remote review is a actually an outstanding idea and seems very doable. Pay a registered official $100 to watch the duel and be on call for a couple review situations. Costs would come in making sure whatever technology used had replay ability that was easy to access and use to make the process fairly quick. This would only be an issue for duels only accessible online.

"Remote Review" - good call.

Don't think a C note will get much attention.

If an official doesn't have to leave his house and only be available for a potential review(s) then yes, plenty of guys would do that for $100. There are duels that never even have a review.

But then the remote ref would have to pause the porn...instant mood killer ;)

It actually sounds like a good idea...have a "booth" guy without the overhead.

So maybe the athletes need to jog the circumference of the mat while the review is under way and the one who logs the most laps gets to choose the subsequent starting position. ;):D:p

This could be done by the B10 because of all the rated teams and wrestlers and needs the same thing for nationals!!!
